5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book!!!, April 27, 2007
This review is from: How to Raise a Juvenile Delinquent: A Common Sense Approach (Paperback)
The books title caught my attention and of course I had to buy it immediately. I would call myself an avid reader and enjoy reading many self help books especially on areas of personal and professional development. What I found in this book was that the author really gives you a great look into the common pitfalls of parenting in today's society. The book was an easy read full of insightful information that NO PARENT should go without. What really impressed me was the simplicity of the author's message yet it hit home on so many levels. If you have children, or are planning to have children, I would recommend adding this book to your library. Also, I came across during my research that this author has a website too! [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars A possible answer to America's misguided youth, April 15, 2007

This review is from: How to Raise a Juvenile Delinquent: A Common Sense Approach (Paperback)
Amber White provides a rational explanation of why our juveniles have had an increase in violent behaviors over the last decade. She analyzes the influence of a child's development during the birth age to five years. The author provides many forms of character building parents can participate with their children. However, she makes the reader aware that developing positive characteristics could be difficult because of social pressures from outside factors. Yes, I agree we do need to get back to basics in developing juveniles principles, morals, and values. At the end of the book, I was left wondering how a juvenile's race and culture effected his/her development but maybe this chapter could be added in her next book. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to any proactive parent. Don't let the title scare you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Hitting Common Sense Child Rearing, February 7, 2007

This review is from: How to Raise a Juvenile Delinquent: A Common Sense Approach (Paperback)
Author Amber White does not coddle the reader with warm and fuzzy anecdotes of days gone by. Amber reports to us from the front lines of a Juvenile Detention Facility where she witnesses first hand the effects of parenting gone wrong. The author balances the need for effective parenting with the need for offender accountability. Amber compels the reader to heed the warning signs of societal decay. She pleads with parents to enact her RAD (Respect, Accountability, and Deterrence) approach to child rearing in order to raise children that are respectful and accountable. Amber reminds us all that it is through parental structure and discipline that the child eventually learns self-discipline. The book contains subjective and opinionated thought and is not intended as a scholarly treatise, however, Ambers experience as a mother of two, and an active Probation Officer, lends credibility to her effort. Overall, the book is a well written, common sense approach to child rearing and a useful resource for parents everywhere who need a little help raising their children to become responsible adults.
