4.0 out of 5 stars Viewing the World from the Inside Out
This book was not what I thought it would be. That was a pleasant surprise. I bought the book thinking it would be a self-help book about reading other people and characterizing them. It turns out, the book is more about self-evaluation - what you project outwards and what you allow in.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless II
I am in complete agreement with the previous "Worthless" review. I wish I had read it before wasting $4.95 on this pamphlet. The book is just 17 pages of observations that any adult of average intelligence will have made by age 18. I defy anyone to find one sentence in there that will be new and not previously learned from everyday life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Viewing the World from the Inside Out, June 29, 2007
This review is from: How to Read People Like a Book: 50 Uncommon Tips You Need to Know (Hardcover)
This book was not what I thought it would be. That was a pleasant surprise. I bought the book thinking it would be a self-help book about reading other people and characterizing them. It turns out, the book is more about self-evaluation - what you project outwards and what you allow in.

"How to Read People..." is a thought-provoking book. It is short. Many of its chapters are short. The ideas presented are short. None of the means it is it is not meaningful or helpful, however.

This is the type of book that can be read over and over. In fact, in the beginning of the book, it advises the reader to do so. Each reading will produce another revelation depending on the frame of mind the reader has at the time of the reading.

The ideas and philosophy professed in the book are almost Eastern mysticism. The book teaches "wholeness" with the Universe and obeying the practice of being oneself by following one's true feelings.

The book is very portable. It is a small hardcover. It can easily fit into a jacket pocket or purse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Avid Reader, March 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been an avid reader of this type of book for over twenty years. What I have found is that the books that have given me the most help are the ones most disliked by others, because they strike to close to home.

This book is a perfect example of what I'm talking about, a lot of people have strong negative reactions to it. I must admit at first I let the nay sayers influence me,

but i bought this special book and read it several times and each time I was more surprised than the last!

Anyone who has an opportunity to read it and doesn't is deneying themselves a great resource. Read it several times-- you'll be glad you did. Some carp about its size -- which is why I love it so much. It's short and to the point and loaded with powerful help. Murray Oxman puts more in twenty pages than most authors put in One hundred,

5.0 out of 5 stars National Bestseller, March 4, 2011
It's strange, the very things some people dislike about this book are the very things I like the most. Yes, this book is short and right to the point, hallelujah! It's written in everyday language and seems like it might be unimportant, but if a person really starts pondering the content, one realizes there's more here than meets the eye. I happen to know the publisher personally and I can tell you this book is a bestseller nationwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely biased, March 28, 2011
Yes, I'll admit I'm prejudiced. I have all six of Murray Oxman's books, and I love them so much I went to Corvallis, Oregon to meet him. Time well spent!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Book Packed with Many Layers, July 29, 2007
This review is from: How to Read People Like a Book: 50 Uncommon Tips You Need to Know (Hardcover)
This like book turned out to be a pleasant little surprise. Normally I would not have picked up a book like this because the title advertises itself as a potential tool to manipulate people, but as a teacher, I thought maybe it would help me understand where some of my students are coming from.

On one level, the book does exactly what it advertises by describing and cataloging behaviors observed in others.

On another level, the book teaches you to recognize when others are trying to manipulate you.

On a much deeper level, the true beauty of this book lies in the fact that it holds up a mirror to see ourselves. It collects a vocabulary to label traits we observe in others, and in turn, we recognize them in ourselves. In discovering how others attempt to manipulate others, we discover how we try to manipulate others, often unconsciously to protect our own hidden needs and fears.

In the end, this little book provides a few tools to help dig through the many layers of tarnish the false self builds up so that we may risk being our true self.

1.0 out of 5 stars Destroying this book as soon as I finish reviewing it., April 18, 2011
By
This book is a horrible misrepresentation of the the human spirit. It's trash and should be treated as such. I'll be destroying it page by page as soon as I finish this review. Don't waste your money and if you, do be prepared to lose what connects us to one another on this little planet. This book is so bad I wouldn't return it to be sold again under any circumstances. This author needs to review his own damaged and broken relationships and question where he is accountable. This is one of the darkest and self absorbed books I have ever read and it's only 86 pages.
