5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading!, September 22, 2008
By T. Washburn (Virginia Beach, VA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I consider this the prime resource for gaining knowledge into the very broad spectrum of responsibilities that go along with being a legitimate music producer. Though some of the book addresses the current evolution of the recording industry, most of the material concerning the producer's role is timeless. I'm still surprised at how in-depth and detailed this is, given all of the variables involved. Brilliant!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What is the record producers role in the modern day?, July 13, 2008
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
The vinyl record is long since dead, and the compact disc's future is in question - What is the record producers role in the modern day? "How to Be a Record Producer in the Digital Era" is a complete and comprehensive guide to the role of the modern record producer: promoter, lawyer, and general man of many hats. Tackling all of the finer nuances of the profession, "How to Be a Record Producer in the Digital Era" is highly recommended for community library music collections, and to anyone who make a career out of the music they love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good guide to the new music business, September 15, 2008
By Señor (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
Great insights, both a jump start for newbies and a solid reference manual for people who have recorded some bands and want to plan for longevity. Lots of material to read, it covers alot of ground from technical details of how to manage a recording budget and run a studio session, to royalties, copyrights & contracts, and more creative things like how to motivate musicians and even digs into the psychology of artists. Most importantly, it talks about strategies for making a business out of producing music -when labels and bands and everyone except Steve Jobs struggles to make money, producers are going to have to be creative and reinvent what they do. Plus, anyone with a half decent computer can do their own recording. Should you invest in a studio, hunt down bands yourself, or work the label game? It's not a Passman book in the traditional sense of spelling out what percentage each party gets in every kind of record deal, but more like a next gen Passman for figuring out what the deals should even be. This should get some attention.
