Review

Curtis Martin, Author, The Transforming Power of Virtue
Gives us practical help in learning how to respond to God s grace and overcome the world in Christ.

Most Rev. Thomas G. Doran, Bishop of Rockford, Illinois
Anyone who is serious about growing in the spiritual life, particularly any Catholic, could benefit from reading this book.

Fr. Francis Randolph, Author, Pardon and Peace: A Sinner s Guide to Confession
A great encouragement to those striving to do God s will.

Donald DeMarco, Author, The Heart of Virtue
Temptation is the drama of the human soul that ends either in tragedy or in glory. Fr. Remler understands the significance of this drama, carefully delineates the dramatis personae, wisely dissects the plot, and rushes to the rescue with spiritual allies and sensible solutions.

About the Author

Born in Bavaria in Germany, Francis Remler moved to the United States at the age of fourteen. He graduated from St. Benedict’s College in Atchinson, Kansas, in 1895 and the following year entered the Vincentian seminary in Perryville, Missouri. He taught German briefly at St. Vincent’s College (now De Paul University), of which he was a member of the pioneer faculty, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1902.

Fr. Remler spent many years serving at Kenrick Seminary, teaching German, literature, homiletics, and science, and serving as assistant director of seminarians, procurator of the seminary, and spiritual director.

In 1940, Fr. Remler entered semi-retirement, but even that kept him busy giving numerous retreats, preparing a Layman’s Home Retreat with a fellow priest, and writing many pamphlets and books, including How to Resist Temptation, The Eternal Inheritance, and Why Must I Suffer? Drawing on the example and inspiration of Christ and the saints, Fr. Remler’s writings continue to offer today’s readers clear, simple explanations on the truths of the Faith that touch the lives of all Christians each day.

This book doesn't mess around. It has a clear thesis and explains everything it says it will. It describes what temptation is and how to master it and control your passions. It is very strict and the author clearly doesn't care that the ideas put forth are considered by modern standards "hard to follow." It helped me immeasurably.

Does not pull punches. Do you think there's no harm in contemplating evil as long as you don't do it? Not a good idea, according to this author. This is just what you need to read.

Excellent book. Well worth buying and reading. I also recommend "Clean of Heart" by Rosemarie Scott, and "The Sinner's Guide" by Venerable Louis of Granada.
