Lew has the ability to pack whole paragraphs into single sentences ... it's thoughful thinking and careful writing. Listen to the cadences of his voice on one of his tapes and your reading his material will come even more alive.

I am often left with a lack for the proper words when someone shares one of life's problems with me. This book has given me the words and the confidence to use them when one of these opportunities comes my way now.
It has helped the lives of those I come into contact with as well as my own life.

I came across this book as if led directly there by GOD in a very low place, and it strengthened me to prevail through worse times to come in 2008. I have read the Bible, cover to cover, and am a Christian. This book speaks plainly, simply. It speaks of Hell of Earth, I've been there. I beleive in signs, angels, demons, and the Holy Spirit. READ this!!!!!! I would like to purchase 20 copies of this original edition, the little red book, not a later one,and give it to my closest loved one! This is how special this book is... IF anyone has one or hundred, I would like one or twenty.

Of all the Lewis Smedes books, I believe that this one is the best. He writes so concretely - the words touch your heart in a very deep way. If you have ever doubted your faith, have been discouraged in your life or have felt that you are all alone, you will find so mich comfort and solace in this book. I could not put it down, but at the same time I never wanted it to end!

When faith, hope and love follow us into adulthood, we turn to lesser gods to help us through. I 'burned out' many years ago as a young mother in a new cultural setting. I was asking many 'why' questions. I did not want to replace God with lesser gods. This book was counsel from a 'hopenologist' to lead me to grace that is sufficient for all my need.

This book is one I really needed to read. It was very helpful to me as I think of the years gone by and how many times I asked myself that very questions. It gave me a new perspective and I wish I had read it many years ago. Books by Lewis Smedes have always been very helpful for me and this one was no exception. Elaine Fay
