5.0 out of 5 stars A sizzling good book
Karen Kelley's How To Seduce A Texan lives up to its title. It's funny, sassy and sexy to boot.

Reporter Nikki Scott aka The Barracuda has been sent to get the scope on football star Cal Braxton. Seems Cal has holed up at his brother's dude ranch. Nikki is determined to get her story. But Nikki thought it would be more like a spa.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would like more plot
This book is steamy, but I would like a little more story. If the author had expanded more into the character's backgrounds it could have led to a better desrciption of their personalities and their struggles.

Cal Braxton needed a break from the press that has been dogging his private and professional life. When he finds out his newest guest is a reporter, he vow to make her regret trying to get the scope on him. Giving Nikki Scott the rustic experience will have her running back to the city ASAP.

Nikki isn't put out by the rough experience as long as Cal is there to help out. Nikki and Cal stumble into a scorching hot affair that has them both rethinking their lives.

Karen Kelley's book are filled with humor and smoking hot chemistry. Her books always deliver the reads that I enjoy. This book is no exception, its sexy and a must for any romance lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seductive fun!, June 2, 2009
By
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Reporter Nikki Scott resents being sent by her editor to gather information for a fluff piece on football star Cal Braxton and his recent broken engagement. She makes a reservation for a week at Cal's brother's dude ranch since Cal is hanging out there. Nikki is known as "The Barracuda" and she's certain that she'll be able to charm her way to the truth without even trying. Upon arrival at the ranch, Cal puts her in an old cabin that clearly hasn't been inhabited by anyone for an incredibly long time. Since Nikki lied about the true reason behind her visit, she plays along. When an undeniable attraction develops, Nikki continues her deception, not knowing that Cal is on to her and knows exactly why she's there.
Cal can't help but be attracted to Nikki, but knowing that she's just another nosey reporter, he decides to turn the tables on her a bit and give her an extreme ranch experience. Just as Nikki wasn't counting on rougher than rough accommodations that include an outhouse, pumped water and a woodstove, Cal wasn't counting on falling head over heels for Nikki. Oh, and neither of them was counting on a ghost showing up for a surprise visit.
Karen Kelley isn't just an author, she's an entertainer. Her books are always a bright spot for me, comedic without being ridiculous or cheesy. The lightheartedness is consistently tempered with just the right amount of passion, sensuality, and sweetness to please every romance reader. I'm confident that readers will fall in love with Nikki and Cal. Nikki isn't nearly as threatening as her nickname suggests, and while Cal may think he's doling out tough love to teach her a lesson, they're both getting a lesson - in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars amusing contemporary gender war romance, May 29, 2009
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Following his latest breakup that the media and not just the sports segment devoured, football star Cal Braxton needs a breather from the feeding frenzy of the intrusive press. He hides out at his brother's dude ranch in Texas.

Her editor assigns reporter Nikki "The Barracuda" Scott to go undercover to uncover Cal's secrets. To do this Nikki becomes a guest at the ranch. Although she assumes he played football without a helmet and thus has a Grand Canyon where his brain should be, he knows he has a journalist snooping in his affairs. Instead of his sibling's ranch, he takes her to the family's rundown homestead with a cabin that looks like OSHA and EPA would condemn even before the Housing crowd got involved. He figures with no electricity, no Internet, no water and an outhouse, the city flicker will flee for the nearest urban hill. Instead she handles every dirty farm trick and cow chip he throws at her and tosses them back while a ghost tries to regain solo occupation of the abode. As his game plan fails to execute properly, Cal feels sacked as he goes from anger to admiration to attraction to love seemingly before the first fifteen plays occurred.

HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN is an amusing contemporary gender war romance. The lead couple is a fabulous pairing between an obstinate reporter known as the Barracuda for a reason and a football star known for his womanizing ways who matches her stubbornness all the way. Readers will relish Karen Kelley's fun tale while wondering by the two minute warning whether love will prove enough with this pig-headed pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smokin' hot in Texas! A great combo of humor and steamy romance., June 6, 2009
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Loved this one! A sexy humorous story set on a dude ranch in the heart of Texas. Yummy, funny and oh, I want more!

Cal is a famous football player taking some R&R at his brothers dude ranch. After a media frenzy erupts when he breaks an engagement with a media darling, he is hiding from the press. However, a sexy reporter finds his location and begins a deceptive ploy to get the scoop story -- not realizing that Cal is already on to her. So instead of shipping her off, he puts her through the hard-knock paces of a dude ranch and puts her up in a far away, old rustic haunted cabin with no electriciity. And of cource, keeping her in the dark about the cook, spa and massage therapist on premise.

The games these two play are hillarious, and the heat that erupts is smokin' hot. There is even a secondary romance story that was equally enjoyable. This book really reminded me of Erin McCarthy style with the humor, heat and great characters. I totally recommend it to fans of sexy, contemporary comedy style romances.

One thing that was odd is that this book is classified as a paranormal romance, but I think that is a big stretch. It has a ghost as a minor secondary characater with a few funny scenes, otherwise its a straight contemporary read. I've always enjoyed this author, but I hands down think this is my favorite from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly romantic paranormal., May 29, 2011
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Wow...This paranormal sure knows how to pack a punch straight from the beginning and leaves you breathing heavy after you finish. Not only is there ghostly happenings but there is one HOT romance that builds between the two main characters, Nikki and Cal.

To sweeten the already delicious pot is a secondary romance between Cal's brother and the massage therapist that comes to work at the resort that Cal is staying at. This book truly has several angles that leave you surprised.

There wasn't one single thing I disliked about the story. I couldn't find anything even after I read it a second time.

One of the things that stuck out which made me laugh several times...SPOILER ALERT...Was a poor old rooster who had issues impressing his harem of chickens. Yes, I typed rooster. This poor thing had me, Nikki, Cal and I'm sure Karen, the author, giggling several times.

Wrapped up in this drool worthy cover is a plot full of mischief, paranormal happenings, a rooster without game, and sizzling romances.

This is definitely a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Seduce A Texan, November 1, 2010
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Nikki Scott is a reporter known in her profession as "The Barracuda" due to her ruthlessness. While getting the low down on a football player by hanging out on his brother's ranch isn't what she is accustomed to doing, she will do what it takes to get her story. Especially when she spends some time with Cal and her hormones come to full attention. She is not a shrinking violet, so Cal can bring on the challenges and she won't back down.

Cal Braxton just wants to have some R&R on his brother's dude ranch and relax doing what his brother needs help with. What he definitely doesn't need is another nosey reporter. So when one shows up, he decides to run her off by putting her into an old unused cabin, without running water and only an outhouse for plumbing. But to his surprise she isn't to be deterred and he eventually figures that he just might not want her to disappear.

Karen Kelley has written a number of stories about alpha men but I have to say, what more could one ask for than Cal? The man is a football star as well as a rancher with one of the biggest soft spots you will find, once you get past the stone like exterior. I absolutely loved how he set up Nikki, but at the same time I also adored how she was determined to stick it out and prove she wasn't a city girl "wuss". I especially love that in spite of themselves they will figure out where their futures and hearts really lie. I look forward to the next story by Ms. Kelley and think if you missed How to Seduce a Texan you need to find yourself a copy quickly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and hot book, November 29, 2009
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
Football player Cal Braxton seeks refuge on his brother dude ranch, when the media goes crazy after he breaks up his engagement. He hopes that he will be safe from the media there, but he didn't count on the sexy reporter Nikki Scott, who discovers his hiding place. When Cal discovers that the newest guest of the ranch is a reporter, he plans to give her an experience that will have her running back to the "safe" city life. But Nikki doesn't give up so easily. Soon they both can't keep their hands off each other and this results in a steamy relationship. The situation gets even more complicated for them when suddenly a ghost gets involved in their life and the situation becomes even more fun.

No matter what Ms. Kelley is writing about, aliens, ghosts or Texans, her readers can always look forward to a fantastic story, because her writing style and wicked sense of humor make her books so unique. Each book is a keeper and HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN is no exception to the rule.

HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN is a book filled with a wonderful kind of humor and smoking hot chemistry between Cal and Nikki. The sparks are flying so much, that you have to worry that your book pages might go up in flames.

It's a perfect book to brighten up your day, so if you need something to lift up your mood you definitely have to get a copy of HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN! I can highly recommend the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Sizzling Read, June 23, 2009
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN is Karen Kelley's latest release. The book is a hot, sizzling, funny read - true to the style which is this author's trademark.

Cal Braxton is a professional football player, who after a much publicized breakup with his now ex-fiancé is hiding out on his brother's dude ranch from everyone until the dust settles and he thinks through his options. The last thing he needs is a scheming reporter to invade his territory for a story. He was going to enjoy making her life miserable and would have her running back to the city in no time. Cal was going to win this round or so he thought underestimating the staying power of Nikki when she is after a scoop. Nikki handles all that Cal throws at her and then some.

Nikki Scott also known as "The Barracuda" is a reporter who always gets her story. Although she resents her editor for sending her to get the lowdown on Cal - a womanizing, spoilt, sports player - she will get her story and succeed at all costs. When she sinks her teeth into a story nothing will stand in her way. Nikki just never thought that a dude ranch could be this rough and her accommodations are less than ideal with the rustic cabin that has not been inhabited in a long time, and which comes with its own ghost and outside toilet. Who was to know that the subject of her story was so hot and makes her melt whenever she is around him?

The games that Cal and Nikki play are entertaining to the reader. Nikki has no idea that her cover was blown from day one and Cal is onto her. On the other hand Cal cannot believe that no matter what he does Nikki doesn't give up and go back to the City. All he knows is he is losing ground fast when it comes to keeping his heart out of this mix and that is something he will not allow. He is going to use this situation to his advantage and then walk away for once on the winning side of the press.

The hot chemistry between Nikki and Cal make the pages sizzle. There is also a secondary romance between Cal's brother and the massage therapist which only ads depth to an already entertaining read. It is fun to see two stubborn, obstinate people deny their true feelings to one another because we all know that the mighty will fall. When all the lies come to light will these two come to their senses and see past it all to what they really have? Karen has weaved an enjoyable read which I would recommend. This author is one of my favorites and this story has all the elements of a sizzling romance from the very first. I look forward to more stories from her in the future.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very entertaining......., September 14, 2009
This review is from: How To Seduce A Texan (Paperback)
I've enjoyed Ms. Kelley's books in the past and I was really looking forward to this one, due to hot guy on cover, cute sounding story, but I really found myself doing a lot of skipping on the pages. Really not one of her most entertaining books. I seem to be in the minority in my review, but I just wasn't into this book.
