More About the Author

Kyra E. Hicks was mesmerized after seeing Eva Ungar Grudin's 1990 exhibition, "Stitching Memories: African-American Story Quilts," that she began to teach herself to create her own quilts. "I found my voice that afternoon in the museum," she remembers. Today, Kyra's quilts have been included in more than 40 group exhibitions. She hosts the African American quilting news blog, Black Threads. Kyra resides in Arlington, VA.

I have friends who write quilting books in the traditional manner, and while they seem to love the process they seem to held back by their publisher.   I have wanted to write a book for a long time, but I did not want to deal with a publisher, at least for my first
book, this ebook gave me the first steps in creating   my first
book.    I recommend this book to any artist.

After reading over this self help book, I found that it was not as difficult as I first thought to produce my very own quilt catalog. Kyra teaches one how to gather all materials needed to be able to complete in a short period of time a catalog that will last for years. This method of preserving my quilts throughout time is exactly what I needed! Thank you Kyra!

Sincerely,

This is the guide to help one to do so. Kyra has really put her heart and soul into assisting fellow quilt makers to publish exceptional quilt catalogs that will get their works before the public eye....thus creating published legacies for future generations to enjoy and cherish.

As an avid follower of Kyra Hicks "Black Threads" blog, I just knew I had to read her latest book. From beginning to end it is a comprehensive study on how to do-it-yourself. I really appreciate it's concise directions and simple formatting. In fact as I read; I could hear my own voice saying "You can do this". I also realized that the step-by-step method outlined may be applied to many different subjects. As an African-American woman I feel it is especially important to tell and document our story our way. In fact, Kyra took the mystery out of publishing, gave us a simple blueprint and answered the question "Why not?".
