5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for parents and teachers, but for everyone
This book is a fabulous resource for anyone, not just for those involved with children! I'm 40 years old, not a parent nor a teacher, and I discovered many wonderful things about myself, how I'm smart, and about the people around me. I also learned that it's never too late to train my smarts, so I'm now working on growing my "body smart," which is my least-developed way...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Christian
I'm sure I just didn't read all the reviews thoroughly, but this is a very Christian-based book - from the dedication and intro on. Don't order if this is off-putting to you - I could not make it through the first chapter (the part where we don't develop these intelligences fully because sin entered the world really threw me).

This book is a fabulous resource for anyone, not just for those involved with children! I'm 40 years old, not a parent nor a teacher, and I discovered many wonderful things about myself, how I'm smart, and about the people around me. I also learned that it's never too late to train my smarts, so I'm now working on growing my "body smart," which is my least-developed way of being smart. Read this book to learn how you are smart, and how you and the people around you, even if they're not children, can learn to grow the different smarts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!, January 12, 2012
This review is from: How am I Smart?: A Parent's Guide to Multiple Intelligences (Paperback)
My son doesn't think he is smart because he is not word smart or logic smart. I have tried to convince him in the past but he didn't believe me. After reading this book now I am able to show him the areas that he is smart in, but also help him strengthen his weaknesses. It is so easy to say. "I'm not good at that," instead of working to improve the weak areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars If looking for a book on multiple intelligences, this is it!, November 30, 2008
This review is from: How am I Smart?: A Parent's Guide to Multiple Intelligences (Paperback)
Dr. Kathy Koch is the consumate teacher with this book. It's long overdue as she is a gifted speaker with a heart for validating the whole child. As a child who grew up in a home where everything had to be "perfect", I suffered with self esteem issues. Because of my people smarts, I was still "popular" but had I known the information in this book, it would have offered me the validation that I so needed at one of the most self conscious time of my life when I was comparing myself to my scholarly brother and sister. Because of this period in my life, I believe it has made me a better teacher of teenagers and I'm going to pair up my students more strategically in the future when working with partners. If you are struggling at home with a "difficult" child, read this book!!! Do it!!! You will understand your son/daughter and give them the grace and support they need in order to survive in this world that often measures only one or two types of intelligences and deems only those types as "smart". Be ready for a paradigm shift and also be open minded to change some of your parenting style!!! If you want your relationship to change with your son/daughter, it might not happen overnight but at least this book will get the ball rolling in the right direction. Way to go, Kathy Koch! Bravo.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for all Parents & Teachers - Brilliant!, October 9, 2007
This review is from: How am I Smart?: A Parent's Guide to Multiple Intelligences (Paperback)
Want to know about yourself and how you are wired? Want to know about your kids and how they are wired? This book by Dr Kathy is one of the best books on multiple intelligences I have ever read. One of the things that makes this book a standout from other ones (not counting the easy to read, lots of stories and illustrations etc) is that Dr Kathy goes through the characteristics of the different intelligences, the strengths and weaknesses, and also gives advice on how you can strengthen the various intelligences. Even better for Christian parents, Dr Kathy writes from a Christian world view!

Quite simply, this is the best thing i have read on multiple intelligences. As a teacher, it was FULL of practical tips and help and has caused me to think about how I teach. Dr Kathy makes this material accessible and writes in an engaging manner with lots of practical examples and ideas. I liked it so much I bought 5 copies to give to friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for any parent or teacher, March 10, 2007
This review is from: How am I Smart?: A Parent's Guide to Multiple Intelligences (Paperback)
This book is a continuation from Dr Kathy's teaching and lecturing and is written not just on the theoretical, but on a very practical basis. This book has been needed for a long time: it will challenge and inform all parents and/or educators how to identify and work with the God given strengths within each child/teenager. It is an easy to read book with some real gems and "aha" moments. The first two chapters provide a background to the multiple intelligences laid out in the next 8 chapters.

Dr Kathy has provided a great insight for parents into the Gardner classification of multiple intelligencies. If you care about your children, this is a "must read".
