About the Author

Penny Hastings and Todd Caven have established themselves as experts in the field of collegiate athletic scholarships. Penny helped her son Todd coordinate a sports scholarship campaign which resulted in scholarship offers from several major universities. They also carried out elaborate research, including their College Recruiting Survey of over 500 college coaches, in addition to discussions with hundreds of high school coaches and counselors, college financial aid and admissions officers, and student-athletes and their parents. Their personal experience and this extensive research convinced them there was a strong need for this book.

Penny Hastings is a professional writer and consultant who lives in Northern California. She is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist on women's sports issues and is an advisory board member of the Women's Sports Foundation. Hastings is on staff at the Press Democrat, a New York Times newspaper. Her latest book, Sports For Her, is about high school sports for girls.

Todd Caven attended Stanford University where he played soccer for four years on an athletic scholarship. As part of his financial aid package, Caven worked in the Stanford Athletic Department and assisted in the recruitment of high school student-athletes. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford in 1991 and currently resides in Austin, Texas.

Hastings presents popular seminars based on How To Win A Sports Scholarship to high school student-athletes, parents and coaches across the country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for ANYONE interested in sports scholarship, January 5, 2003
By A Customer
This was an invaluable aid in our recruitment process. It is a very easy to follow guide for letter writing, organization of schools, and user-friendly in it's entire format. While using this book as a starting place, it was necessary to find additional resources of information. But this was great to get us started.

We have recommended this book to other sports parents, many have found it helpful in a very long, confusing process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What We Needed, June 19, 2008
By
As the parent of a high school junior in the throes of preparing for College, I wish I had found this book 5 years ago. It is easily the best organized step-by-step handbook I've ever seen to prepare for scholarship applications. Many of the suggestions apply beyond sports. It especially helped me communicate with my son about what we needed to do.

I recommend it to all teens and their parents.
