Hardy must be thrilled with the tragic demise of E. Lynn Harris, since it leaves clear the field for sub-soap blaxploitation. And despite his pretensions of civil rights activism, that's all Hardy ever manages to churn out: bad soap with some added heat. His crude stereotypes are offensive, and his style cringe-worthy. Reading a James Earl Hardy novel is like reading a story on a social networking site like BGCLive.
And that's really the best description for drivel like this: fan fiction on a forum. The author is so in love with his own work that he's almost spoofing himself. Still, for Hardy this Kindle-only short story must be a big comedown from those heady hardback days back in the '90s, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
Don't waste a moment of your precious time on this, let alone hard-earned cash. Buy something by a writer, not a pretender.
The backdrop is New York City and I can actually see the activity and the hustle and bustle as the scenes play out in my mind, going from one trendy spot to another. Stanley Brewster has taken a vow of celibacy and has been on a nine year hiatus! Unexpectedly he runs into one of his former students (Bobby) from many years ago. Now that Bobby's a grown, man he wants to pursue his childhood crush with Mr. Brewster.
HOW STANLEY GOT HIS BACK IN GROOVE is a story that will keep you turning the pages. You'll fall in love with the characters and the steamy sexy scenes will have you begging for more. I'm sure Mr. Hardy has plenty more in store for his fans, and I'll be on the lookout.
Awesome work James Earl Hardy!
Oh...Mitchell and Raheim are even mentioned; remember them?
Review by B. Grovner, author of EVEN NUMBERS, COLD CRAZY & COLD SERIAL.
What I love most about James Earl Hardy is his gift for breaking down the complexities of our lives... our loves... and our relationships into the most simple structures. But in this simplicity, he captures perfectly all the beauty and richness and flavor that makes us who we are - I think its genius! I love it and I'm sure you will too. I bet this will be the most rewarding 27 pages you'll read... yup that's what I wrote - 27 pages! It's amazing what someone with skill and talent can fit into 27 pages - perfect for a Sunday afternoon read.
We meet Stanley Brewster, whose many sexcapades have left him disillusioned and longing for something more. But he's not quite sure what that something is. That is, until Bobby Carpenter--young, sexy, alluring, and ready--comes along and takes Stanley on a journey so sensual that it both excites and terrifies him.
Brimming with stunningly real characters (there's even a nod to the B-Boy series), earnest dialogue that grabs you and doesn't let go, and a beautiful depiction of black gay sexuality, Hardy demonstrates why he is still one of the best authors out there. While we take pleasure in learning just how Stanley rediscovers his groove, the even-more-satisfying discovery is that Mr. Hardy never lost his.
