5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Denise! This book is priceless., March 31, 2010
This review is from: How to Start a Home-Based Catering Business, 6th: *Become the top caterer in your area *Organize menus for parties, corporate events, and weddings ... caterer (Home-Based Business Series) (Paperback)
I just wanted to tell you thank you for writing your book "How to Start a Home-Based Catering Business." I lost my job this past January and have been struggling like everyone else in this economy. Part of my challenge is that I want to do something entirely different from what I've done before, so I've been reading about various types of businesses when I came across your book. I have to say that it is wonderfully well written, chock full of great and practical information, and truly inspiring.

I've been doing odd jobs to keep kibble in the bowls and had the opportunity to coordinate a little fund-raiser event (20 people) in Brentwood a couple weekends ago for a friend who is running for office. Looking back on it now, I can say that when everything was set up and ready to go a half-hour before the guests arrived, it gave me a great deal of satisfaction. However, now that I've read your book (am actually on the second reading with lots of sticky notes!), I'm inspired to think about this as a real business, including the idea of going to cooking school (at age 55!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Resource Time After Time, July 8, 2011
I've used How To Start A Home-Based Catering Business as a resource
for the past three years. As a culinary professional, I've referenced
it at every turn as I grow my business. I never read the title
thinking I would run my food business out of my home, mostly because I
already knew that I couldn't cook commercially from my home kitchen
due to state law. The term "home-based" to me meant that I would run
my own business as an entrepreneur, keep my own books, do my own
marketing, etc...not that I would physically cook in my kitchen. This
is the most user-friendly and informative book I've found on catering,
and for me and my success, it's been priceless!

I was very excited about getting this book after reading the other reviews and the books title. But, the title is VERY misleading. After just a couple of pages in you read how it's against the law to cook food at home for sale. The whole premise of the book is how to SET UP AN OFFICE AT HOME for your off-site catering business!
Very dissapointing!
With that being said... The information provided for setting up your office, marketing etc... Is very good, but it's not what the title promices.
