Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Using a question-and-answer format, attorney Warner presents his ideas about the law relevant to starting a small business. Since most small businesses fail within a few years, useful information is critical. Warner's best discussion is about the merits of incorporating. Advantages may be fewer than assumed, he claims, especially when the entrepreneur must use personal assets as collateral for the business loan (so much for preventing personal liability). The author/narrator also suggests that the new business owner keep his or her current job. Warner's tips on holding start-up expenses down are also sage, since cutting costs is as good as increasing sales. Permit and license requirements, insurance, and tax planning are glossed over. Given the constraints of a single 60-minute tape, this is a helpful introduction to aspects of small business law. Recommended.
