I've awarded this book 2 stars on the basis of the major effort of the author's arithmetic calculations. Otherwise I would have been forced to rate it lower. The author's conclusions are muddled. He seems to confuse the relatively common gravitational shifts with the far, far less common axis shift. An axis shift, to be certain, would probably be quite impressive but a gravitational axis shift, less so.

Just as bad, despite the author's dire prediction of a near total apocalypse, he goes on merrily to discuss ideal menus for the survivors. He's big into kiwi fruit, baked bannanas, orange juice, avocados and multiple other vegetarian delicacies. This is certainly confusing. If his scenario is even ten percent correct the rare survivors will be lucky to get the occasional moldy potato or skinny rat.

Also, it will be very important to properly train the young survivors in this Hell turned Utopia. It will be very important that they are taught not to make the same mistakes that led to the catastrophe that destroyed the earth [????]. This is truly confusing because earlier the author indicates that the 2012 world shattering catastrophe is entirely the product of irreversible natural phenomena.

Fortunately, we don't have long to wait to verify the author's calculations. I'm counting down and I'm overjoyed that I'm in South Africa where I can climb into the Drakensburg [ideal location] to wait out the destruction of the rest of the earth. Then again, the author alternatively suggested that an indestructible yacht might be an even better idea. Maybe I can suggest a third choice: Build an indestructible yacht loaded with kiwi fruit and bannanas, and moor it high in the Drakensburg. Perfect.

R.B.

Patrick Geryl is brutally honest in describing this Cataclysm in our near future. Just to give you a small sample found in the foreword:

"I clearly explained that life after a polar reversal is nothing but horror, pure unimaginable horror. All securities you presently have at hand such as food transportation and medicine will disappear in one big blow, as will our entire civilization, dissolved into nothingness. It cannot be more horrifying than this; worse than the worst nightmare. More destructive than a nuclear war in which the entire global arsenal of nuclear weapons has been deployed. Are you grasping the facts?

The earth will be subject to total destruction. It will be many times worse than my description. You will know terrible hunger, cold, and pain without the hope of a quick recovery; all knowledge and resources will have been completely destroyed. This will be the reality of your daily life after the forthcoming polar reversal. This is the scenario you will have to fight your way through in order to survive."

The author of this book states that a pole reversal/slip occurs every 11,500-12,000 years, caused by our sun's solar cycles that occur in this period of time. Geryl goes on to state that if you want to survive you need at least 12-18 thousand dollars minimum to purchase necessary items to survive and you need to pick the right location in the world which does not include North and South America. I gave this book 5 stars because I agree with almost everything Patrick Geryl says in this book except the following points.

Geryl states on page 96-97 that after the pole shift of 2012, the United States and Canada will be located under the Artic circle (the new South Pole) and North America will be under glaciers just like the last ice age. I don't agree with his logic on this. Another item I disagree with is, what our future population should be limited to because more people, means more pollution. Geryl states that no more than 100 million people should occupy the earth which is an extreme position in my opinion. Even the N.W.O. people say 500 million people are optimal. The world can sustain 1 or 2 billion people easily and should be limited to this. Geryl also states that just before the next polar flip the population of earth should be culled to a mere 100,000 people. That is just absurd; almost as crazy as his suggestion that venereal disease can be cured by fasting for 16 days (page 107). Geryl is a vegetarian that believes in a fruit and vegetable diet and wants to ban many industries in the coming new world which include slaughterhouses, tobacco companies, candy companies, chemical companies (pesticides and herbicides), food companies that process food, and limit the size of cities (avoiding tall buildings) in the pursuit of a much happier society. On page 128, Geryl says:

"A strong central authority will have to issue strict laws for starting companies and the use of raw materials. This is the only way to prevent ecological catastrophes. Furthermore, we need to make sure that people can earn money, but cannot become rich."

If I survive this pole shift/reversal, I do not want Geryl in charge of the new world, that's for sure. I value freedom and Geryl, being from Belgium, has a different perspective on what freedom is. And finally, contrary to Geryl, I believe that most governments know of this coming catastrophe and have been preparing for it for years. The USA, China, and Russia have massive underground cities all over the world. I think that most of the underground cities will perish in the coming polar shift, but some will survive. Two years before 2012 Geryl states he will publish this book for free on the web which proves he is sincere and really believes the end of the world is at hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars "What would you do if you had five more years to live?", March 23, 2007
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
This is the question that comes to mind when considering the thesis of Patrick Geryl's book, How to Survive 2012? Based on his research and the deciphering of mathematical codes left by ancient scholars, a cataclysmic event will soon overwhelm the planet. This is the third in a series of his books about the devastating destruction that the author has discovered is coming in 2012---a planetary geophysical pole reversal.

The first part of the book discusses his voluminous research from several different disciplines including mathematics, ancient texts, archaeology, geology, cartography, mythology, astronomy, and physics that led him to conclude that a pole reversal will happen in 2012. Such a shift of the earth's crust would result in the destruction of civilization and the deaths of most of the world's population. The author can get quite graphic in his description of what would happen during and following a pole reversal. However, I find that there is a wisdom and compassion in his style of writing. It is to prepare the mind like an inoculation so that when actual conditions present themselves, one can act.

Patrick's writer's voice is clear, logical, enthusiastic, and strident. He believes that the devastation of 2012 is going to happen. It has happened thousands of times in the history of the earth, he contends, in clock-like fashion. The compelling aspect about Patrick to me is that he presents himself as a sincere person, a diligent, self-made scholar who has put together the pieces of the puzzle into a huge mosaic until the picture becomes clear and the arrows point to one central message. If you ever wondered why the Egyptians and Mayans labored for generations to build pyramids, wouldn't warning future generations of a planetary cataclysmic event be such a reason? It so happens that our technology just now in this generation has reached a point to be able to decipher the symbols and messages contained there.

If pole reversal is coming in 2012 how can it be that our top scientists are not warning us about it, and how is it that they don't know about it? Patrick claims that he has cracked the code mathematically and it is evident in the book that he has been thinking about this voluminous topic deeply for many years. Many breakthrough discoveries have come from independent persons who thought about things from different angles in totally new ways. What distinguishes his book in an area of rapidly mounting interest is the quality of his analyses and the manner in which he came upon his discovery. He claims that he has deciphered the messages of warning left for us by our ancestors in the pyramids, in the Mayan calendar, Dendera Zodiac, the Nazca lines, and the ancient myths and legends. The great controversy lies not in if he is wrong, but if he is right. If he is right, then he could be warning us of the inevitability of the most tumultuous event in the history of humanity. While the implications of what he is presenting would call upon us to totally change our way of life, this warning might allow for humanity to prepare and for some of us to survive to carry forth our wisdom and knowledge for future generations. If the poles shifted do you know how your area would be affected? Find out how to prepare and where the safe zones will be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this book, October 7, 2008
By
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
If you want to survive of any cataclysm (incl. 2012) then this book does not help you at all. It's purpose seems to be creating fear in people from well-being countries. Most of the suggestions are ridiculous, in style "how to get food if electric can opener batteries are empty." There are almost no suggestions about preparations for any surviving in advance. Seems to me that Author of this book simply cannot imagine, what is living in nature all about. I would suggest him before starting next book to visit some Amish village, spend some time outside of the city on some agricultural environment or visit some area/country with developing economics (like the one where I come from).

If someone wants to learn/prepare how to survive outside of civilization then I would suggest to buy either Camping & Wilderness Survival: The Ultimate Outdoors Book or SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea. Sorry, but even watching popular movies like "Mad Max" or "Waterworld" are probably more educational in this field than current book. If you want to read about 2012 theory, there are also better books available. Maybe you are interested in Twelfth Planet: Book I of the Earth Chronicles (The Earth Chronicles) for instance.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is a book by a madman., June 3, 2009
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
I have read all Geryl's books on 2012 becouse its one of my interest. Well this guy is crazy. In his first book he seems to think some unknown secret laberinth in Egypt contains the secrets of life and death and code's to Earth's destruction in 2012. Where does he get this from? I have never even heard any reference to this so called laberinth outside of a small mention in Heredotus. There is not even a shread of truth it ever existed muchless held any info on earth destruction. But I digress.
In how to survive 2012 he give's more doom and gloom on 2012. He then goes into how to live on unsinkable boats as if you could buy a unsinkable yacht. He then goes on to tell how he plans to live on a mountain in Africa when it hits the fan. Ok thats all well and great he is entitled to his opinions but then we start to get recipies for super vegi drinks and the problems with fruit juices destroying tooth enamel??WHAT. The earth was just DESTROYED your family is dead, modern civilization GONE and he wants to worry about tooth enamel. Stay away from this one. Yes there is something coming in 2012 some change. Dont worry about it worry about your mind and heart if there right with god you have nothing to worry about.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nuclear Winter - Semi-Polished Basmati Rice?, October 29, 2008
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
After reading many websites about the 2012 end of days scenario, I purchased this book for more information. I read through all the horrible results of the pole shifting including massive volcanoes, tidal waves, destruction of all buildings, inundation of sea water inland on crops, destruction of ports, and so forth. Finally, I get to the issue at hand -- survival. He starts out fairly reasonable with information as to sterilizing water and making compost with human waste (odd necessity following the calamities). Then, he progresses into what to eat. I am ready for copious information about how to trap animals, edible plants, etc. and he presents me with the essential healthy fruits and vegetables diet accompanied by menus. He initially raves about the virtues of kiwi, ending with its sex drive properties. Odd, I think. But, how about enjoying a nice breakfast of steamed bananas and fresh squeezed orange juice, to be followed with young bean shoots and semi-polished basmati rice sprinkled with freshly grated coconut.

I shouldn't have to state the obvious, but where does one plan to attain those items while living in a cave in the mountains of South Africa while tidal waves are pouring in and the sky is blackened with volcanic ash?

I read the warnings of books such as these, that the authors are usually trying to get you to buy some product. Sure enough, he has four books on eating healthy. Hmmmm.

So, perhaps I will check out another book, but will definitely be skeptical of the facts. How To Survive 2012

1.0 out of 5 stars Pseudo Science at it's worst, February 3, 2011
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
This was one of the worst pieces of trash I have ever had the misfortune to read. I am truly thankful that I found the book sitting on a chair at the airport and did not waste any money purchasing it.

The author (an amateur astronomer) makes wild speculations about how the earth will end, without any scientific facts. His "survival tips" are completely unrealistic. Where am I going to find bananas in North America (or Great Britain for that matter) after the world ends? This is just one glaring example among many in this book.

The only possible reason to read this book, would be for a laugh. If, for some reason you want to read this lunacy, please do yourself a favor and look in several dumpsters, as most who read it will immediately deposit it there, don't waste your money buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fell short on survival tactics, November 17, 2008
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
I like Patrick's books, but I was expecting more information on how to survive during and after such a cataclysmic event. This book contained much of the same information from his previous books on the subject. I would have liked more exact information on where to go and what to do. I think this is a good book for general information regarding 12/21/2012, but I would recommend his previous book, The Orion Prophesy, which was a lot better. If you are looking for answers to exactly what you need to do and where you need to go to survive, you won't find them in this book. This book left me with a lot of unanswered questions that I now realize that Patrick or anyone else probably cannot answer with definite accuracy. How anyone would survive through these possible upcoming events, is anyone's guess.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reversal of the Earth's Spin ??, March 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
You know, as with all catastrophe stuff, it can get you worried, but then again, it rarely happens liked it's laid out. I just don't see it - a sudden reversal of the earth spin ? I just don't see it. Now, as for whacky stuff occurring in 2012 regarding sunspots and coronal ejections that's a different story - and we may get a Carrington Effect, but a reversal of the earth's spin ?

Anyway, I'm not going to worry about it - because if it does happen, not much you can do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very misleading title-- NO good info on survival, July 17, 2010
This review is from: How to Survive 2012: Tactics and Survival Places for the Coming Pole Shift (Paperback)
Yeah, there's all kinds of good ideas about how the disaster could happen. It has the drama and scary assertions about how and why it happens. But the title is "How to Survive" not "How I Think It's Going to Happen" This book doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Where is the "How to Survive" part? It's nowhere. This guy spends pages on really stupid food combination programs that are no different than what anyone who's been on a diet already knows.
He includes only VERY basic info on survival techniques-- if you've camped primitive for more than 48 hours you already know what he wants to tell you about survival.

This is worthless for how to survive a worst case scenario.
