How to Survive Y2k Chaos in the City was written to help people become adequately prepared to keep themselves and their family safe in any emergency situation but especially to prepare for the most potentially devastating man-made disaster set to strike at -- midnight, January 1, 2000. In the day's that follow, many people may find themselves in homes without heat, light, water or food. For most of the major industrial nations this event will occur at the beginning of winter. Experts predict that power outages, food shortages, and serious disruptions to all essential services will not only be a possibility, but a certainty. People who live in the city and suburbs will be the most vulnerable because most are completely dependant on electricity, tap water and their local grocery store. How to Survive Y2k Chaos in the City was specifically written to help the urban dweller prepare to meet these challenges and come out a survivor.

Several years ago we began our own research on the Y2k-Millennium Bug. At the very beginning we were hopeful they would find the magic bullet and everything would be okay. That hope was short-lived. As more documented information emerged we realized that we were at the threshold of the most potentially devastating, man-made disaster, ever experienced in history. A predictable disaster that is set to strike at -- midnight, January 1, 2000 and within 24 hours, will to some degree or another, affect everyone in the world.
As we began to consider the possible ramifications of Y2k to our lifestyle, we became increasingly convinced that we needed to prepare for, possibly, a worst case scenario -- and do it now. But, where to begin? What should we prepare for? What if there was no electricity, no water, no heat? How would we keep warm? How would we eat? What would we eat? What should we store and how long would it last? What things, if forgotten, could be potentially devastating?

Finally, a book written specifically for those of us who live in the city (that's 70% of us)! We have amassed quite a survival library, but we find the information in this book to be the simplest, most accurate and the most helpful. I took it with me to a preparedness specialty store and even the owner was surprised by how many questions which he couldn't previously answer were dealt with in this book. It will help you become the most prepared in the shortest time possible.

I'm really impressed. This book, How To Survive Y2k Chaos In The City, is a gold mine of useful, practical, common-sense information. It provides a sane, rational approach to your emergency preparations. This book has exceeded my expectations. I also applaud the authors because they don't use any of the fear tactics that many do, but instead give some very thought provoking reasons why we should be prudent in our approach to Y2k.

I have never camped out or had to deal with lack of anything such as electricity or water. Y2K preparation was scaring me silly. This book covers the basics that most of us probably have never needed to know! How to dispose of waste - quite a few creative ideas on this. How to bake bread in a dutch oven! What a wonderful idea! I was not even going to stock grains until I read how they said it was THE most necessary food item for good nutrition and then they have provided the recipes for both dutch oven and skillet bread! My friends and I that have this book have taken to calling it "the little book" as an endearment. We will say things like "I was reading the little book last night and found...." or "where on earth did you find that?" "In the little book". This is really an essential and invaluable resource for anyone who has no clue on how to take care of themselves without all the nicities we have become used to. I have found enough in here to more than recompense for the price of the book. I am very thankful that they wrote it and if things get bad and I make it through it will be in large part because of advice and practical plans from this book! To me this is the city dwellers version of "Back to the Basics" and the two books together are an unbeatable resource for crisis preparation.
