I'm not sure why I bought this book. I'm a middle aged white guy and pretty clearly not the intended audience, but when I heard that Slim Thug had written a book on financial advice I couldn't resist so I downloaded the sample and was hooked. Compared with most of what passes for financial advice on CNBC, this stuff is actually pretty useful.
Slim Thug didn't have many role models, but he's had a lot of experiences and those experiences have taught him some valuable lessons that apply to everyone. I hope that fans who listen to his music buy this book. It will be worth the investment many times over. Although it's not a lengthy volume, Slim Thug doesn't waste time with useless filler. He's come up with a set of rules based on his experiences and they are pretty sound. He talks about the wisdom of setting up multiple streams of income, diversifying your assets, spending within your means and setting up a savings plan. He also delivers smart life lessons like, "If you wanna be a boss, think like a boss." In addition, he addresses the breakdown of the family in America and has some pretty interesting things to say about freedom and responsibility. Be advised that some of the language is rough, but this book makes sense.
Considering the vastly different backgrounds that we come from, I found myself agreeing with many of his ideas, that would best be described as Libertarian and pro-freedom. I thought I would give this book 1 or 2 stars for making the effort to provide financial advice to people who really need it, but the content and the humor made this a 5 star book, even though it is a bit brief.
