I read a free online version of this book that was available through the author's website. Dr. Mumby's basic premise is that through the consumption of cows and other healthy animals that are treated with antibiotics, as well as the over-prescription of antibiotics by doctors and the use of antibacterial soaps, the world's bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Since antibiotics first came into popular medical use in the 1950s, humanity has been winning the war against deadly bacteria. Now, however, evolution is gaining the upper hand once again and bacteria is poised to outsmart us for good. The pharmaceutical companies know this and have basically thrown in the towel; only two "new" antibiotics are in the development pipeline as of this writing, and both of them are structurally similar to products that are already on the market and shown to be bacteria resistant. We are, Dr. Mumby declares, soon to enter a new era in which our modern medicine no longer works against deadly bacterial infections such as MRSA, TB, pneumonia, cholera, malaria, staph, strep, and a whole bunch of others. That's why Mumby wrote this book: to collectively remind us of the many pre-Antibiotic Era remedies that were safely and effectively used for centuries and then quickly discarded once the miracle of antibiotics came into being. Dr. Mumby urges a reawakening of this lost knowledge now, BEFORE we need it, which he predicts could be within the coming decade. He details 47 ways to fight bacterial (and, in some cases, even viral) infections that don't require pharmaceuticals, and he has 50 years of experience to back up his claims.

This book not only gives an overview of why antibiotic use has become counterproductive, it gives numerous alternatives for specific conditions. It was very informative and I liked it very much. For those people who try to avoid antibiotic use, it is an excellent reference book to keep in your library.
