Nicole Daughtry's Story,
By
This review is from: How To Tame a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second in Daughtry Family Series.
Rafe and Charlie have wed - and time has passed. Rafe's sisters, Lydia and Nicole (aka the twin terrors) have decended on London for their first Season. Nicole has vowed never to marry and to break many hearts. Right off the bat she literally runs into Marquess Lucas Paine and MUST find out all his secrets. While Lucas and Nicole both have different agendas, they fall in love. Mystery, intrigue and riots ensue. We meet Mamama Daughtry - a very pathetic individual and we see Nicole grow from a hoyden to a lady. In the end, as in all good regency stories, the truth will out and the hero and heroine win each other's hearts. The story is likeable and the characters mature througout the book. Ms. Michaels has again written an enjoyable regency romp. Anxiously awaiting Lydia's story!!!!

Delightful, funny and romantic!,
This review is from: How To Tame a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel had the ability to just charm the heck out of me while I was reading it! We'll start with our heroine, Nicole. She is beautiful, flirtatious, witty, a bit concerned about how superficial she is... and does not want to end up like her mother, always striving to find a man and love in order to find happines. (Her mother by the way is as annoying as she is hilarious!) Then we have Lucas, he is just plain sexy, intelligent, funny, he has a bit of a "darkeness" to him, but he's more of a charmer and he is totally conflicted in regards to his political aspirations and personal demons.
Together, this couple is just perfect! It's a bumpy road and they do some foolish things, but they simply cannot deny how much they care for each other, not even when they try. I find that in many romance novels the characters don't even seem to like each other and things end up feeling forced. Not in this story. Kasey Michaels is the Queen of banter! While Lucas and Nicole test each others' wit and often end up tongue tied, there are little electric sparks floating around the characters. They freely admit to liking each other and feel that a coupling is inevitable. I can't praise this novel enough. It has a little of everything you could possibly want. Lucas and Nicole are great friends, great sparring partners, and great lovers!

fun Regency romance,
This review is from: How To Tame a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1816 eighteen-year-old twin sisters Nicole and Lydia Daughtry have come to cold dark London for their first season in the "the year without a summer". Nicole's spunk and beauty catches the eye of many suitors. However, it is a collision with Marquess Lucas Paine that makes her reconsider her position on love as she is very attracted to him.
For his part, he reciprocates, but knows the timing is bad. He has a need for vengeance against the rogue who destroyed his family and so has no room for a perky duke's sister. However, in spite of his efforts to stay away he cannot, which places the woman he is falling in love with in danger from his archenemy and his mission in jeopardy of failure. The second Daughtry family Regency romance (see HOW TO TEMPT A DUKE) is an engaging tale due to the relationship between the feisty female and the suddenly distracted avenging Marquess. The support cast is solid especially her family and his sorrowful mother. Although the plot device has been used frequently in historical, Kasey Michaels provides her audience with an engaging tale. Ridiculously Childish Heroine,
This review is from: How To Tame a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was not at all captivating and definitely not one bit intriguing. The hero and heroine were completely mismatched. The hero came across as a horn dog, while the heroine came across as ridiculously childish and temperamentally spoiled rotten. At first, the heroine's spunkiness was attractive as she was no ordinary debutante of her time, but as the story progresses, this attribute was extremely annoying. Furthermore, the heroine was too stuck up on herself.
Although the author doesn't mention the ages of her two main characters, we were kept reminded that the heroine was quite young and that the hero was much older. Because the hero totally falls head over heels for our heroine upon meeting her for the first time, and he is so straight up about his feelings with her, we are never allowed to determine whether or not he truly felt any deep feelings for the heroine. He doesn't comment anything other than above is carnal feelings for her and that because of her youth he feels very much alive and daring again. This totally comes across as a hero going through serious mid-life crisis and thus extremely pathetic. With respect to the plot, well let's just say that there wasn't one. There was never any real sense of danger despite the author's constant reminder of an impending riot to take place and intentionally to be caused by one of the Lords; who is allegedly the villain even though one can conclude that there never really is an actual villain since the hero's father died of unusual circumstances that require further investigating. Finally, the supporting characters were flat; and let's not mention the heroine's mother. This mother came out lower than flat and mere inches away from a common two-bit whore and totally un-nurturing. In conclusion, this read does not provide any action, suspense, excitement or a realistic love story and match between two intellectual people of their social standing. Hopefully, the heroine's sister will have a better story than this one.

2nd book in the Daughtry Family Series,
By
This review is from: How To Tame a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
Nicole has dreamed of her first season where she flirts with many men, breaks some hearts and have wonderful adventure. On her first encounter in London she meets Lucas Paine, Marquess of Basingstoke and they both fall for each other but because they both have goals they bluntly tell each other they their attraction for each other is NOT good timing. Please give yourself a few chapters to be reminded of the previous books and connect with the characters. Nicole is not an easy character but you grow to understand her and she matures through the book. Check out the 1st book in the Daughtry Family Series How To Tempt A Duke. The author says this is a least a 4 part series -- can't wait for Lydia story!
