"If you can write, you can earn money online."

Whether you're tired of being stuck in a cubicle, you want the flexibility to travel, or you want to be home more for your family, writing online could be the way to help you meet your goals.

From blog posts to eBooks, there are more opportunities for online writers than you might imagine. The truth is, content rules the internet.

How To Become An Online Writer will help you avoid the top mistakes made by new online writers, solidify your decision to start writing for pay on the internet, and make sure you start earning as quickly as possible.

What You'll Learn in How To Become An Online Writer:
  • What writing for pay online really means for your lifestyle,
  • Whether you have what it takes to start a writing business,
  • Why you don't need to be a perfect writer to start earning today,
  • That there's a huge variety of jobs out there to suit all writers,
  • How to tell the scams from the legitimate opportunities,
  • The importance of starting your business as you mean to go on,
  • How to overcome the challenges you'll face as an online writer.
Becoming an online writer doesn't cost a lot of money, it doesn't require any expensive equipment, and it doesn't even mean that you have to be a great writer. It's a legitimate way to make money from your passion, to work on your own schedule, and to get your words out into the world.

As long as you're willing to put some work in, and you are prepared for the learning curve that comes when you work for yourself, then you can make money with your words.

About the Author

After struggling to find employment when the recession hit in 2008, Ruth Pound fell into freelance writing almost by accident.

Ruth stumbled on a forum ad asking for articles on ethical travel after searching for online proofreading jobs as a way to earn extra cash. She sent a sample article that she'd written for herself, got the job and had the money in her PayPal account later that same day.

Since that first online writing job, Ruth has never had a month where she couldn't pay the bills - and more - through online content. It started off as freelance writing for others, and moved onto niche website creation, selling pre-made sets of articles, and eventually information products like the one you're reading.

Three years after starting her career as a self-employed online writer, Ruth flew to Southeast Asia from her home in the UK, where she continues to run her business successfully while traveling. Without the flexibility of a career as an online writer, this lifestyle would never have been possible.

As long as there's an internet connection, Ruth can run her business from anywhere in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it can be done August 16, 2012

Having worked from my home for many years I was glad to see the section on "The Pros and Cons of Working for Yourself" as with the pros are the inevitable cons, and the author has done a good job of outlining them. Equally pleasing was the section explaining how adopting a Conversational Writing style can be the key to overcoming the fear many people have of even trying writing.

This is an excellent guide for someone considering becoming an online writer, and yes it can be done, but there are some do's and don'ts. This book clearly explains them, and in a very easy to read style.

The author clearly has walked the talk, this is a realistic view of a career which is variously over-hyped as an easy way to make money, it's not, or an impossible scam, it's not that either but you need to be careful.

Starts with an overview of the various content that businesses and website owners want writers to produce and then gives a realistic review of not just the pluses(freedom and independence) but also the downsides (isolation) I partciularly liked her list of questions that those considering a foray into online writing should ask themselves. The information on developing your own business plan, is gold, as it's a step over-looked by many beginners.

Recommended for the new writer considering freelancing as an opportunity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic, practical, yet also inspiring August 19, 2012
By Mary
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I know that Ruth speaks from experience, so it's great to read a book about how to do something by someone who actually knows how to do it -- successfully. As a writer who worked on my own for several years (I'm just getting back into it now), I know that Ruth presents a realistic view of working as an online writer.

In addition to discussing the types of writing you can do online, she also shows you what traits are beneficial for someone pursuing this type of work. She's absolutely right; the traits she lists can be crucial to building a successful business. That's a key point, as well: writers need to think of themselves as being in business. I made that mistake, myself, in the past (and I think many of us have!). Her chapter on that was an excellent reminder for me.

What's inspiring is to know that with the right mindset and skills, achieving this career is definitely possible -- and it's worth the effort. Ruth strikes a great balance in this book, and I recommend it.

At the time of reading I was already an experienced online freelance writer but when I saw Ruth released this book, I knew I would pick up some useful tidbits.

I get a lot of people asking where to start when they want to write online and this book is it. Ruth explains everything in such an easy to understand way.

She covers everything from the different types of online writing you can do to figuring out if writing online is for you to overcoming your fears and obstacles that may be in your way. She explains how to start setting up your writing business and even how to avoid common online writing scams.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is possible to make a living writing online. Not only that, but if you enjoy writing it can be very fulfilling, especially when you begin writing for your own web properties or writing about subjects that you feel passionate about. This book is a great overview for beginners who want to write, but are not sure where to start. Ruth does a great job explaining where and how to write online, plus how to avoid some of the pitfalls the would be online writer will encounter along the way.

If you have always been a gifted writer, or just want to get your message out, then check out this book. It will help you get started with writing online and could even lead to a new career, a rewarding hobby, or some extra pocket change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Information Without All The Hype August 26, 2012
By Debi J
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's refreshing to read a book about starting an online career without all the hype about finding riches overnight.

Ruth's book doesn't just say, "Yes, you can do it". She covers in detail the steps it will take, the different options that are available, the stumbling blocks you may run into and how to get past them, the costs, the upsides, AND the downsides (how refreshing is THAT!)

If you've ever thought about whether, or how, you could possibly make a living online, you should definitely consider checking out this book. It's written by someone who's actually done it (and is doing it every day), so it's not just someone offering a theory so they can sell a book!
