5.0 out of 5 stars Become a Pastry Chef from A-Z March 16, 2013

This is a concise and thorough career guide on what it takes to become a professional in this field, from training to finding employment. For anyone who may be considering working as a pastry chef, this guide will help you decide whether or not this career is for you. Even though the job of pastry chef can offer many rewards, the author doesn't sugar coat the realities of it (such as the cost and length of training and the average low pay). Still, there seems to be a growing demand for professionals in this field, even in this economy, and that is a big plus.

This guide is beautifully illustrated. Great value at a great price!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pasteries? Really? December 17, 2013
Well, the misspelling in the title of the book made me wonder about the quality of the information. Turns out, I was right! Really not worth reading . . . glad it was free.

This book didn't tell me anything you haven't heard in high school about following your passion and most importantly making sure you have the means to pay for it. I mean, what this book talks about you can hear all of that on foodnetwork. Everyone knows that any part of the culinary business is long hours, thankless work and the pay sucks. I thought there would be more of a dynamic to this book but I was severely disappointed

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic information but missing the "wow" factor April 17, 2013

This book is for the individual who is naïve about the world of food. Dean Sinclair delivers a basic but practical and useful guide on how to become a pastry chef.

It is a short, quick read. It's a dry read, information only. This book does nothing to attract or detract a reader from making a decision about entering into the culinary field.

The guide in the back of the book is helpful if an individual didn't know how to find the local culinary schools featuring pastry programs.

The author doesn't share their personal story and I was unable to find any information about Dean through Amazon's author central or an online website or blog. I expected more from this book. There is an incredible amount of opportunity to use culinary skills in a very creative way in today's day and age. This book does not explore anything but traditional education and jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Resource March 27, 2013
By Scott
This is a great resource for anyone considering this career field. It is a comprehensive review including tips for on-the-job training, selecting the right school, applying for financial aid, traveling for more knowledge, and applying for jobs. I am very grateful a book like this exists. I wish it would have been around when I started looking into pastry chef courses, however it is perfect for me now that I am applying for positions. I will definitely be passing this on to my colleagues.

When I first looked into becoming a pastry chef, every book I found taught me how to BE a pastry chef. I couldn't find any books, in bookstores or online, that showed me the steps to becoming one. Not only does this book have a step-by-step guide to becoming a pastry chef, it is also a very easy and delightful read. I can't wait to share it with my pastry colleagues!
