1.0 out of 5 stars . . . Just NO! Horrendous! May 3, 2012

The very first thing that Grandma noticed when she opened the cover of How To Make Chili: White Chicken Chili,Texas Chili,Red Chili and Many More Award Winning Chili Recipes You Can Cook With Ease was that the author is confused. Chili with an "i" on the end is a soup or stew. Chili with an "i" on the end is definitely not a pepper, hot or not. Those are "chile" with and "e" on the end.

The book is full of errors. S cup all-purpose flour (flour NEVER belongs in chili!) [teaspoon cinnamon, and many more. (Artifacts from copying and pasting.) Oh - and let's not forget the "1 ˝ tablespoon powdered hot New Mexico". Every single ingredient is preceded by a funky O symbol, guaranteed to cause confusion.

Apparently Red Chili should only be served in cold weather to large gatherings. The serving suggestion for Vegetarian Chili reads "Chili is best served to yourself or your friends if you guys are starting to be a vegetarian. Impress your friends and loved ones with this recipe." Even better, Beef Chili should be served with rice (only in Cincinnati!)

Grandma cannot begin to tell you how very much she entirely DESPISED this book. If she had a hundred thumbs they would all be turned down over this one. Horrendous!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some wonderful non-traditional ideas May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Years ago when I lived in South Texas we used to make Saturday morning trips down to the Rio Grande Valley to fill the car with fresh produce. One of our favorite stops was to visit the "Pepper Man." The Pepper Man grew more varieties of peppers than I thought were possible and, as we learned to use them, we made a lot of interesting variations on the traditional chili. This cookbook reminded me of those days and some of our more creative experiments. There is a separate chapter on beans which is, of course, controversial because Texans don't like beans in chili but for the rest of the world - especially vegetarians - beans are an important part of any good chili. I am especially looking forward to the Sweet Corn Chili and the Indian Curry Chili. To me every pot of chili is an opportunity for creative cooking - now I have more ideas.
