4.0 out of 5 stars Great toy after modifications. Overpriced here.
I got this toy from walmart for $12 and my 4 year old loves it. Amazon usually has the best price on a lot of things but this is way overpriced at $25. The toy requires a little assembly. The wings and tail snap into place. They quickly got knocked off several times in the first hour of play so I superglued them on and now the toy works perfectly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely unhappy with this toy
The toy I received was not the toy I thought it was. The picture was that of Version 1 and I received Series II. I am still looking for the first version and I will never buy through this company again as they have deceiving pictures. I wish I could return the item and get the Series I version.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Daughter loves this toy..., April 14, 2010

I ordered both the 7 inch deluxe Night fury as well as the smaller toy (5 inch) and I have to be honest the deluxe toy is well worth the price increase in size. It is detailed very well, and the fact that the wings move and the mouth opens when you squeeze the legs is a nice bonus so it is not a static toy.

The movie was excellent and kids of course want the toys from their favorite movies, we could not find the Night Fury in any of our local stores and so we turned to Amazon. I was of course thrilled to find it and be able to make my daughter happy.

Sure I paid a little more than at a store, but I accepted this as part of the deal, the stores were sold out (likely because people bought them all to resell... well at least in part)

Either way glad I bought it, great toy. My only complaint is the wings do not always stay on and there is no articulation in the neck. Hmmm perhaps too the face could be made to be more "cute" to match the animation style of the film, other than that though no real issues.

I read the not-so-great reviews of this toy, but decided to try it anyway and my 8 year old daughter loves it and plays with it all the time. She has no problems with the wings coming off or anything. And, Toothless' mouth opens and closes and he's pretty cute. Highly recommend this toy. Of course, keep in mind that if you have overly excited young children playing roughly with it, I could see it coming apart, but otherwise it's great.

My 6 year old who adores this movie has not put it down since Christmas Day! He loves it, plays with it constantly. And he continuously stretches his imagination. Perfect toy for a boy who loves dragons!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Pay Over $15, May 14, 2010

This toy has been available at Walmart for $15. Our child loves it. However, I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it. If you combine this toy with the McDonald's nightfury toy you have a fun parent/child dragon set.

NOTE: There is now a second generation of this toy. The first generation has straight legs and the wing movement flaps. The second generation has the 'saddle' and 'leather' rear wing, bent legs and a back and forth wing movement. The wings do fall off easily, but that keeps them from breaking if they had been permanently attached. You can superglue them if you want them to stay in place. My kids love this toy and play with Toothless constantly. I originally bought them off ebay at 30 bucks each shipped. Yesterday I was at Wal-Mart and hit the motherload. They had a fresh shipment and i bought their whole stock of Night Fury's to give as presents as well as one of each of the large sizes of the other dragon's. There is also a Gobber character and a new better Hiccup (generation 2) figure. I am hoping they make an Astrid figure for my daughter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great for a collector/not for a child to play with, April 4, 2010

In two words: falls apart. This item comes in pieces so you have to attach the body and wings. Then when your child plays with it; it falls apart. It's too bad b/c they are eye catching and well made from a visual sense. I say go for it if you are a collector b/c a collector isn't going to 'fly' the dragon around the room and stage 'fights' with the other dragons (I have all four). The most stable out of the collection is the Zipperback but this one is also the most boring with little or no action to it for a child. All have the wings that have to be attached and therefore can be easily removed by your kid and lost. The problem is the pieces just fit together and do not lock or click into place. I'm buying loctite plastics bonder to fix this as my son loves these toys and at $4 for the bonder it's worth it. Had I known this I would have bought the bonder with the dragons. Remeber not all super glues work on plastic and can damage the toy in the prcocess to get one that works on all plastics or the glue will melt your dragon. Good Luck!

PS Walmart has these toys for 12 bucks so I would skip ordering here. Even with tax and the time to go to the store it's worth saving half of the cost posted here.

If you plan on buying this as a collectible, it is worth it. Can't wait to add the Hideous Zippleback and the Deadly Nadder to my collection. Hope to see the Monstrous Nightmare and the Terrible Terror dragons come to collectible figurines.
