This video is the true history of the west. That it was really was lost and not won. The video set how the west was won is how the white's look at the west, but the how the west was lst is the truth told by the Native Americans. The stories of the Navajo, Nez Perce, Apache, Cheynne and the Lakota's. It tells what really what at woundened knee and the sand creek mascree. A must have for any Native American collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars alternative histories are important, June 29, 2006

This review is from: How the West Was Lost: Part 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this film in my 8th grade class in "U.S" history. It served as an eye opener and helped frame my life long political perspective. The film is very accessible and I would recommend sharing it with students as an alternative to the text book national narrative.

Heartbreaking story of the ordeal and subsequent fate of the native indigenous people of Americas in the hands of the evil and deceptive White people coming from Europe in their very own lands now called Canada, Mexico and the USA. A Powerfully and brilliantly compiled TV series presented from the Native and Indigenous perspective which is a rarity on American media.
