3.0 out of 5 stars no book will win you an election
This is a good book, it gives you a lot of ideas, and ways to make a great campaign. but don't get suckered, this book, and no book will win a election for you! I am the Student Council President, but i didn't win the election because of this book, although it helped. Consider this book as a friend, and not as a GUIDE.
The good thing about this book, is that it has...

In high school, my feeling was always that elections were popularity contests and that I wouldn't stand a chance, even though I was a lot more qualified than the people who did win. As we find out from Jeff Marx's HOW TO WIN A HIGH SCHOOL ELECTION, victory is within reach for anyone with the courage and the dedication to try.

With common sense tips and loads of great anecdotes supplied by (who else?) thousands of teenagers across America, Marx takes the reader, step by step, through the process of running and winning a great campaign. He reveals winning strategies for how to deal with the competition, with the voters, and with the faculty of the school.

I won't give any of his advice away. Read the book for yourself, or give it to your favorite teenager -- it's a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WON BY A LANDSLIDE, April 7, 2000
This review is from: How To Win a High School Election : Advice and Ideas from Over 1,000 High School Seniors (Paperback)
I'm not a jock, cheerleader, or very popular for that matter of fact, but with this book I went on to win the position of vice-president in my Junior class. I was stumped at first. I had no clue what i was going to do for a speech nevermind campaigning. When i read this book, the ideas in the book were great. Not only that, but they gave me even more ideas. I won the election by a landslide and i recommend it to anyone who feels stumped or that they do not stand a chance.

This book tells you what has worked and what has not. Jeff Marx polled student body officers to find how they won their positions. Then he categorized the stories into this helpful guide. This book will not just help you win the election; it will help you win friends. Elections are popularity contests.

Need Jeff's help in a hurry? Amazon ships in 24 hours; specify overnight shipping and you can have it in two days.

As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I am very impressed with the way Jeff wrote and published this valuable book. END

Reading this book is a great way in seeing how, in ways that you might win a school election. It has many opinions of likes and dislikes, how a person chooses his/her elective; in speech, making your name stand out, etc. Many people might think it's popularity that is a must for a person to win, but hey, that's not the deal...so, for your next school election...read this book beforehand in making up your ideas ointo "trying" to win!

You may be wondering if this book is worth your money. Well last year I bought this book when I was running for Student Council President. I had some really tough competition (on top of being the only girl) but with the great ideas and positive outlook I got from this book I won the presidency! I was so happy I personally contacted the author (Jeff Marx) to thank him! And, on top of that, I have been re-elected as President for the next year! Get the book, it helps, really it does! (Jeff, sorry it took so long to write this! I switched e-mail accounts!)

5.0 out of 5 stars No matter what ANYONE says, this is the BEST BOOK!, March 31, 2000
This review is from: How To Win a High School Election : Advice and Ideas from Over 1,000 High School Seniors (Paperback)
I have read some of the reviews on this website that really downgrade this book, but I don't understand how anyone could have given this book less than a 4 or 5. This book helped me out soooooo much during my elections, and I won both times. It's not about copying the ideas in the book and trying to make them work at your school, it's about taking that advice and molding it into your own ideas and thoughts on posters, speeches, and campaign trends. Believe me, this book is not like one of those "Learn Egyptian in 5 Days!" kind of books, it REALLY helps you out if you are even having the slightest notion of wanting to become an officer at your school. So, I DEFINITELY think that this book is a MUST for ANYONE thinking about running for office.

This book gives you great ideas, you just have to show up at your school and do the campaining. Almost kind of like a manual instruction for a shelf. But it doesn't gaurantee that you'll win.

If you've ever wanted to be a student leader this book is essential not only for motivation but also for great little ideas you might not think up on your own. This book is not only clear and organized it is helpful beyond words. Since it was written with real advice from real student leaders it is completely true and very useful. The advice and stories included in this book helped me decide to run and eventually win my high school election. Now I'm the Junior Class President.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice and great life lessons!, November 27, 1998

This review is from: How To Win a High School Election : Advice and Ideas from Over 1,000 High School Seniors (Paperback)
This book contains great advice for any young adult looking to run in a student election. The information is written TO young adults, not AT them. It contains comments by their peers that makes them understand that others out there feel like they do.

Additionally, it's just a good life lesson. The book is about taking charge of the things you want and eliminating fear. It is very motivational and positive. We can all use a lesson like that.
