5.0 out of 5 stars How to win at Sports Parenting: Maximizing the Sports..., May 17, 2001

This review is from: How to Win at Sports Parenting: Maximizing the Sports Experience for You and Your Child (Paperback)
This book is a must read for any parent with children involved in youth sports. Excellent characterization of typical parent fans, which one are you? Jim is a great presenter and has learned some of the lessons of pressing a child (his son) into baseball since that was what he was in. The real take away is the fact that no matter how much we want our kids to be little superstars, they will only really get to that point if they enjoy what they are doing. If they don't, they will decide to play some other thing at a moment that will break our hearts. Another key take-away is that we don't have to rush out at age 5 to get into the lessons 5 days a week in order to nuture a budding superstar. If they have talent, they will rise. If they don't have talent, they will resist the parents pressure and hate every moment of the activity. Jim has a baseball camp that he teaches some of these same principles for the kids and the parents. He and his wife give lectures on the subject as well.

The Sundbergs have definitely had the experience in sports at all levels as a player & parents & have managed to keep great priorities so I have great respect for what they bring to the table when they encourage parents in the appropriate ways to guide their kids' sports experiences. They offer wise, practical, realistic & needed advice for helping parents strike a good balance.
