Editorial Reviews

Review

'This book ranks with the best in the field. It is brief, to the point and easy to follow ... useful to the author and the editor ... and so recommended.' Research Communications in Molecular Pathology and Pharmacology

'... short and straightforward ... Since most science is published in English, the book is also extremely useful to scientists whose first language is not English ... complete and user-friendly ... for those having to make their first public steps in science, Gustavii's book is certainly very useful.' Annals of Human Biology

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction, June 28, 2008
I have been dipping into this concise and witty book as I write my 13th research paper. Gustavii provides excellent advice on the entire process, from preparing graphs (very helpful) to dealing with editors and referees. The book is aimed at graduate students and post-docs but the language is so simple and direct that undergraduate researchers could also learn from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars very helpful guide, July 31, 2008

This review is from: How to Write and Illustrate a Scientific Paper (Paperback)
As a graduate student entering a scientific field with a liberal arts degree, I have found this book to be a very helpful, straightforward and enjoyable introduction to scientific writing. I appreciated consulting it for guidance on designing tables and writing up the methods and results sections for my master's capstone project. The chapters are well organized and effectively cover a lot of material; they are very easy to quickly scan and find a useful piece of advice on a particular topic. This book has also made me a more critical reader of the literature. As astounding number of published peer-reviewed papers fail follow the most basic rules; confusing language and poorly constructed tables not only frustrate the reader but may also prevent the communication of potentially important results. This is a must-read for anybody who wants to clearly and efficiently convey scientific information. Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars For non English speakers, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is just trivial info you can find in any journal instructions, and is more for the non english speaker, or people who don't know the first thing about how to write a scientific paper. Not recommended unless you fall into these categories.
