Now in its second edition, this book is a plain-language discussion of the reasons to construct a premarital agreement and the issues to consider when doing so. Attorney Haman reviews the kinds of agreements that can be made, summarizes the current laws of all the states and the District of Columbia, and provides numerous forms to use as guides when crafting the agreement. There is good discussion of the types of property at issue in a marriage and the problems that can occur owing to death or divorce. The statutory section provides actual citations to laws and outlines the alimony and property distribution rules in each state. This book can be used either to help draft an agreement or as a preliminary to an appointment with an attorney. Couples contemplating marriage and those already married will find it useful as a springboard to discussing marital goals and what might happen if they don't live happily ever after.
