5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
I've been searching for just the right book for my 11 year old son and this is one has just the right look and information I wanted for him. Many other books were way too long, some with pages in the hundreds and other books were too immature for his age. This is a great beginner book for covering all of the facts and terms. An 8 yr. old would need help reading it but an...

2.0 out of 5 stars Adoptive ParentsTake Note!
I bought this book as an extra resource while preparing my 9 year old daughter for puberty. We have open, honest discussions on this topic and I was seeking a Christian viewpoint. When I got to page 25 and read the first paragraph, I was appalled. There the author states " Some people decide not to have any children. Some others cannot have children because their...

I've been searching for just the right book for my 11 year old son and this is one has just the right look and information I wanted for him. Many other books were way too long, some with pages in the hundreds and other books were too immature for his age. This is a great beginner book for covering all of the facts and terms. An 8 yr. old would need help reading it but an 11 yr. old could read it alone. I think it would be fine even for 12-13 who hasn't learned much about reproduction and puberty. The illustrations are simple but accurate, not like some I've seen that are more like from a medical textbook or cartoonish. There is a glossary with pronunciations and definitions. I like that it is Christian and family based. It's everything I was looking for!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for, July 29, 2001
By A Customer
This book focuses on health and development with a beautiful Christian perspective on the changing bodies of adolescents. It gives the young reader plenty of information on understanding his or her own body. It introduces areas of social concern, such as homosexuality and pre-marital sex, but mainly focuses on the young reader and how to understand his or her own body. Unlike so many books that give "way too much information" this is a nice option for parents who just want to start with the basics.

This review is from: How You Are Changing: For Discussion or Individual Use : For Ages 8 to 11 and Parents (Concordia Sex Education, Book 3) (Hardcover)
I am grateful to Focus on the Family for recommending this book to me. It is well written though the illustrations could be better. The content is very age appropriate and was extremely well received by my child. Reading it together as we might any other book made the subject matter much easier to discuss. As part of a whole series called Learning about Sex published by Concordia, it is a great addition to any Christian person's library

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, October 31, 2005

This has so much info in it, I am afraid it had a little too much for my 11 year old. She became a bit nervous at some things I thought she would not. I would not let a child read it alone, as suggested, until a parent has read it first and made sure there is nothing too mature for the individual child.

My husband and I have read through the book and feel that this is the place to pick up where previous discussions have ended. Having a biblical basis was very important to us and this book does so wonderfully.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not sure about age range, June 26, 2007
This is a great book with clear descriptions and discussions. However, it is way more information than my 9 year old needs right now. I am going to order book 2 and go from there. It will be a good book to have on hand when the time is right though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful For Teaching Children About Sex and Sexuality, January 21, 2008

As a Pastor of Children's Ministries, I frequently give away or recommend books from this series. The series provides parents with information and a strategy for presenting the material to their children. Use the recommendations as a suggestion - your child may need to hear the content sooner, depending on the exposure he/she has had from peers or others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Love Love these books., July 24, 2009

This is the third I have ordered in this series. I have children at different ages, so they have different questions. I love how this incorporates Christian beliefs with health matters. My son was very attentive and it opened up a door for him to ask questions in a very peaceful way. You will love this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sex ed book review, December 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Highly recommended for every parent and child. This book is part of a series and conservative (it also talks about adoption). Our family owns all of them. Personally I supplement with "Learning about sex - a series for the Christian family" also available for various age groups. This one is like a story book version, not revealing anything too soon, but making it a natural progression. A parent's help indeed!
