Derty Tina,

This review is from: How Do You Want It (Paperback)
Trina resides in the projects with her mother, Lucinda, and her boyfriend, Maynard. Trina's life changes drastically - she is horribly molested by Maynard, becomes a young mother, and also develops sexual attraction for women.
Trina then begins to turn to the streets for money yet gains attention; she became a hardcore female that has more guts than most men and made plenty money to prove it. She does whatever to get what she wants; whether it's money, drugs, or women. Trina also often has run-ends with the law, but it has never affected business because money rules and everyone loves money - including crooked cops. At the age of twenty-two, Trina is well-known as the infamous "Southeast Trina" - the girl pulls more money than the president. Trina is unknown to relatives but known on the streets. "How Do You Want It" by Darrell King is an exciting and riveting novel about a young female, Trina, that refuses to settle for less. This novel contained a lot of drama for any reader but yet it all seemed to be fiction. However, I did not enjoy the ending because I expected more to occur. I think I was too caught up in the story. I will look for more of Darrell's novels in the future. Reviewed by: Tekisha

(RAW Rating: 3.5) Imagination Running Wild,

This review is from: How Do You Want It (Paperback)
Katrina Ricks, a 16-year-old sexually abused girl, lives in the hood with her mother and stepfather. Her life took a turn for the better or worse, depending on how the reader interprets the outcome. Not having the love and support of her mother, she finds herself in a juvenile home after protecting herself from being consistently raped by her stepfather.
As a result of having to defend herself, she begins a life of crime by selling small bags of weed. Eventually, the little drug empire she built turns her into a notorious drug lord with many soldiers killing on her behalf. Controlling the drug trade in the Washington, D.C. area, she leads the most violent organization through pure cold-heartedness, and a desire to enact vengeance on her rivals. HOW DO YOU WANT IT centers on Katrina and corruption by political and city officials elected to uphold the law. Filled with gang warfare, dirty politicians and bling bling, Katrina pushed the bar too far. Katrina Ricks was a cold-hearted, angry, young woman who became a millionaire before her twentieth birthday. Constantly avoiding death from her rival drug gangs, I found the story a little too hard to believe. As a well-read reader, I thought it was highly unlikely to see a young 16-year-old girl, without so much as a GED, brilliant enough to single handedly corrupt political leaders and law enforcement agents by outsmarting them at every turn. The book started off slow, but took off toward the middle with too much killing of young men. Although the book was well-written and the characters well-developed, I found the story too unrealistic. However if you like drama, drug deals, and violence, this book is written with the recipe. Reviewed by RM Jackson for The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Chocolate City's Gangstress,
By
This review is from: How Do You Want It (Paperback)
A young teen who was sexually abused at the age of 16 by her stepfather, which ultimately led to his demise, turned a little bag of $20 weed into millions. This gangstress had life by the horns and controlled most of Washington D.C. major drugs whether coming in or out, from east to west, north or south. Murder, corrupt police, dirty politicians, and gang warfare, and killings of notorious drug lords was only the beginning of the list of bloodshed that D.C. had to endure. What took Washington D.C. in awe was a cold-hearted diva, with an iron fist, ride or die attitude, a heart that pumped vengeance for blood, and reported to have one of the largest criminal organizations in Washington was ruled by one the most hard-core women, that revolutionized drugs on the way of the streets of Chocolate City was a woman called Katrina Ricks.
I think the author tried too hard to develop the the main female character as a hard core diva. The slang used and the events portrayed seem to be too over the top. I did find this story to start off slow and take awhile to get into, but if you keep reading the plot start to unfold and the story gets incresingly interesting.
