I was disappointed,

I did not think that this book was detailed enough to ensure that you would achieve a good result. It contained a lot of information, quotes from celebrities and other famous persons, for example, that were a waste of book space. I would have preferred to have purchased a book that presented haircut techniques on a more detailed and serious level.

Worked for me,

I am very particular about my hair cuts, in all my life (late 30's) I've only been truly happy w/2 of my hair dressers. Both of those were Vidal Sassoon trained. Even though I'm particular about hair cuts, I don't like to spend time styling my hair, it bores me and makes my arms hurt to hold them up so long! So since I moved to a small city where I don't know who to go to and have already had three hair cuts I didn't love and since money is tight I decided to try the methods in this book and all I can say is I'm happy. I have fine thin, very long hair in layers and wispy bangs. Just long feminine hair with layers for fullness and I was able to achieve that effect with the very simple twist and cut methods in this book. I bought the cutting shears at TJ Maxx for $10 and the other stuff at Target and I was set. I could have done without the book but the very good illustrations and explanations gave me confidence. I think my hair looks fine and my husband liked it too. It's not as well done as when I went to my sassoon trained stylist but since she's far away now, and I never liked her manner anyway, this will do for me. I like feeling self sufficient and the book paid for itself already.

A collection of bad ideas,

Luckily I flipped through this book in Border's before I wasted any money on it.
For cutting short hair like mine, they recommend that you tie your hair back in a pony tail and simply snip the 'tail' off. I did this once when I was 15; suffice to say, it's a really bad idea. I won't be trying any of the other bright ideas in this book, I'm too horrified to think what might happen!

Got compliments the next day! Quick read, not for beauty school dropouts,

I bought 3 different books on cutting hair. Although the other two had higher ratings, ultimately this is the book I read and followed. The other books (scissors and comb) are to teach you how to cut other peoples hair to look like the cast of Eight is Enough or the son in law in All in the Family (good stalker and androgenous cuts in there if that's your thing). And the dummy book is not for dummies. Its like a beauty school reference book. If you want to buy a book, read it in half an hour and get cutting right away with some semblance of success this book is for you. The other ones leave you lost in detail. Albeit maybe you can screw up big time but this book teaches you how to cut YOUR own hair. So if you want to bob or layer your hair it uses some unconventional techniques but they work pretty well. I'm still gonna read the other books but if you're a DIY person and a How-To person who needs to see results fast, this book does the trick. Not too many complicated details. Not too wordy. Just enough to get it done.
And my hair looks really good now! if your hesitant, just consider your face shape. If you have the ideal oval face (I am either round or heartshaped faced) then pretty much you can't go wrong. However there's always a chance that someone out there is going to try the wrong style or cut on their face. And possibly not be a real DIY type who can finesse their way out of anything. But I liked it and I encourage people to get it who just want to cut their hair, not attend Barbizon beauty school.

This book actually works and the spiral binding with stand-up backing makes it easy to use and read at the same time. My last haircut at the salon was a disaster. I asked for a trim and lost about 5 inches of hair. I am never going back there again and now i don't have to. I have really curly hair and this book showed me how to style it myself. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to save $$ and look great. Very well done!

Perfect for Me,

I think this book was perfect for me. I happened upon it by accident. My friend had purchased it and I read it at her house. I lost my job and didn't have an extra $200.00 to spend at the hairdressers. I was desperate to have my bangs cut, but knew my hairdresser would charge me and she is not close to where I live. I read this book and the part about "How to Cut Your Bangs." I went home, took out my hair scissors and the next thing you know, I have perfect bangs...as good as my hairdresser could or would do ! I was thrilled. My friend then surprised me and bought me the book for my birthday !!!!

I pre-ordered this book and waited a long time to get it. There were delays in the publication and distribution.
I do cut my own hair and have been doing this for a couple of years now. I hoped to learn more about refining my technique. This book might have helped me the first time I cut my own hair and it would be very helpful if I were to start cutting someone else's hair. The instructions were clear and the illustrations well done, but the approach was pretty much limited to the first cut and not much about how to trim a pre-existing style. The spiral binding is a plus. It would be a very good book for someone who had never dared to cut their children's hair or their own. Including some photographs along with illustrations would also have been helpful. Photo editing software could have easily enhanced the photographs eliminating any issues with clarity.

Decent but there are better books out there!,
This review is from: How to Cut Your Own Hair (Or Anyone Else's!): 15 haircuts with variations (Spiral-bound)
I got this book hoping to learn some tips on cutting my husband and child's hair. The book's layout is not so good with illustrations going in two different directions, gets a little distracting. The spiral bound is helpful as you can set the book up to read while cutting. This book is mainly for what it's title reads " How to Cut Your Own Hair" but I was hoping the "Anyone Eles's" would be more detailed as well. I was hoping to learn more about male child haircuts (which only had one) and the proper way to fade a buzzcut which was not covered. The simple tips for using styling tools were also not so great. So basically, just not what I personally was looking for but I do recommend this book to females looking to cut thier own hair as they will get more use of this book than others.

This clear guide to haircutting was exactly what I needed. I've never cut my hair before I read this but it came out great. What a huge money saver! I got compliments from all my friends. This is the perfect gift for yourself or to give to people wanting to save money and still look great. I feel empowered by this book.
