Buy the Next (26th Edition) with 2003 forms!,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Do Your Own Divorce in California: A Guide for Petitioners and Respondents (Paperback)
Gentle reader,Five stars for the book, provided it is in the LATEST edition. Why does this outmoded edition come up when I enter the title here, 2-04-2003? I bought this 25th edition in mid January, 2003, at a local bookstore, paying list price, because I thought I was in a hurry, then called for the free updates, as mentioned inside. I was not informed by that bookseller that all the California forms have been changed; some a little, some quite substantially, as of 1/1/2003! Also, I didn't know then that the new changes would be coming out in the new *26th * edition, coming available at the end of January, 2003. Every one of the forms has been changed in some way, and so the old ones are obsolete. The author asks us to make sure the edition is the latest, and be sure to call NOLO Press for free updates, if the edition is more than 6 months old. If the forms are all being changed again, NOLO may refer you to the (California Courts: forms) online, which are available through browsers, on the net. I would Strongly recommend you be sure you are getting the latest edition of this work. The 26th is discounted here and now, so get that one, or whichever updated version is available when you read this, and I wish for you the in life, and the best possible results with your divorce.

You gotta get this book if you are going through a divorce..,

Even if you have an attorney or a paralegal helping you with the divorce, this book gives you a lot of great information on our CA legal system. It addresses the idiosyncrasies of each county venue and has all the updated forms. You can save yourself a lot of money just having the forms filled out for your legal advisor ahead of time. The Marital Settlement Agreement is invaluable. Get this book!

Very helpful!,

This book is extremely helpful and pretty much step-by-step. It included a cd-rom of forms that you fill out on the computer and then print. For the most part, things were explained very clearly but a few things were confusing or redundant. I got a little help from the county clerk on items I did not understand. I'd highly recommend this book for those considering doing their own divorce.

Not for the faint of heart,

Ok, I admit it. I'm getting divorced. Everything is amicable. Besides, there are no bills, no mortgage, no kids to fight over (thank the Maker!). So I got this book so I could save a little money and file all the paperwork myself. You know what? After reading and re-reading and scratching my head at all the legalese I finally admitted defeat, went to one of those "legal assistance centers" and threw a few hundred bucks at them. If you can make heads or tails of the legal jargon and stipulations and gobbledegook, more power to you. I'm sure this book is very helpful for those who can understand how lawyers think. Me, I'm sticking to computers!

Great advice (if you are in CA),

Great down to earth advice and the software (CalSupport) is excellent. Definitely better than running down to the first lawyer your friends tell you about. It does assume that you and your spouse can talk throught the hard issues.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Do Your Own Divorce in California: A Guide for Petitioners and Respondents (Paperback)
The product was as advertised, meaning it was received in the described condition and well in advance of the anticipated date. I ordered this item for my brother and once he got into it, he saw that it was a 2001 version, not "current" as described, unless current meant in respect to 2001. The forms and other information is outdated and cannot be used except for being out on a bookshelf somewhere. Next time, I make an order, I will definitely make sure that I read enough of the particulars. I may order from this seller again but I will make sure that I read EVERY description.

I bought this book and did the entire paperwork in ONE DAY. Previously, I hired a lawyer, paid $$$, just to get the wrong forms. This is so simple and it has the correct forms! and it shows you how to fill them in!
