Book Description

June 1, 1998
This is a step-by-step guide for an individual investor to recover investment losses caused by a stockbroker. If you are the victim of misrepresentations, fraud, excessive trading or unsuitable advice this book can help you get your money back, quickly, cheaply and without a lawyer.

The authors take you into the arbitration process. They show you exactly what to do, why to do it and when to do it. You can picture yourself in the arbitration in the process actually telling your story. They tell you what to expect from your opponents, why they're doing it and what to do about it. They have taken all of the mystery out of the arbitration process and created a easy to undestand, common-sense, do it yourself guide to recovering investment losses.

This book is the ultimate investor survival guide. It will change Wall Street forever. It It is the very last book a stockbroker would want a client to read. Think of this book as a battle plan, your plan of attack to get your money back from your broker...quickly and cheaply.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

It would be hard to imagine a book covering this subject better than this one does. The easy to read writing style and format of the book are perfectly matched to its intended audience of average investors. But beyond being just a book, this is a complete kit which contains copies of all the forms necessary for an investor to follow through with the process of getting their money back through arbitration. The sample letters alone are worth the entire price. If enough investors buy this book, many brokers will have to change the way they do business.

From the Author

One night over dinner we were swapping broker horror stories. But in discussing the victims of bad brokers we realized that for many of them there was no practical way to get their money back and so the brokers got away with it. Complaints to the SEC and the NASD usually result in a suggest to go to arbitration to try to get the money back. But we realized that most of the victims were not in a position to do anything to get their money back because it would cost too much to hire a lawyer when considering the amount of money involved and the risk of losing in the arbitration process.

But it was our opinion that average investors armed with the right information and strategies could very well handle the arbitration process by themselves and stand to get their money back. So the idea of this book was born.

Perhaps what we are proudest of is achieving our goal of putting the entire process into a light, easy to read and even (sometimes) humorous form. Lawyers and nonlawyers, arbitrators and investors who have the book enthusiastically agree we reached that goal.

2.0 out of 5 stars DIY beware, February 7, 2011
This review is from: How To Sue Your Stockbroker Without A Lawyer (Paperback)
I fully appreciate the spirit of "Doing It Yourself", but suing your stock broker is not like re-tiling your bathroom. Wading into the waters of customer-broker dispute resolution can be risky for someone not familiar with the specialized legal procedures of arbitration. I would say retaining an attorney experienced in securities arbitration on a contingent fee basis is a better choice for an individual investor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help for honest victims of dishonest stockbrokers, February 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How To Sue Your Stockbroker Without A Lawyer (Paperback)
If you are an honest person who has lost money by the dishonest practices of a stockbroker, you should get this book and follow the steps it will show you.

The book is well-written in clear language for the ordinary reader. I liked the way the authors explain the deceptive practices of some people in the investment business. You may not even have realized what was being done to you at the time; in fact this book may save you more grief (and money) just by alerting you to some of the tricks of the trade. The authors help you see whether or not you have a realistic chance of getting some or all of your money back through the arbitration process (or even through the threat of the arbitration process). They are pretty frank about what does not make a good case and want you to be honest with yourself.

Once you decide that you have a good case, the book gives very practical directions for trying to get your money back. It explains the arbitration process and shows you how it can work for you.It will take a little effort, but should not involve much time or expense. The book gives you a good of idea of how the brokerage firm might reply to your claim so you won't get intimidated or overwhelmed by their answer. The authors remind you of the basic points you want to make: you are an honest and credible person, you tried to prevent the loss, but you were treated unfairly.

One of the chapters in the book is entitled "Time is not on your side". The authors tell you that if you want to get you money back, you should get started right away. I would add that if you lost money because of a dishonest broker, get this book right away!
