I've often flirted with the idea of becoming a vegetarian. Though I love meat, there are certainly enough meat substitutions out there to satisfy my cravings.'s been difficult. I live in Austin, TX and out here eating BBQ is almost like a religion. Lately, however, I've started to become much more serious about becoming a vegetarian, and I decided to get this book to do a little research before I jump in. The author does a very good job at detailing just what it is like, and what kind of commitments a vegetarian needs to make.

I really appreciate the fact the author tried to be fair and honest when detailing the pros and cons of being a vegetarian. It's clear the author was not trying to push people too hard into becoming a vegetarian if they didn't want to. She gives specific examples of vitamins that you will be lacking by becoming a vegetarian. I admire that honesty.

Becoming a vegetarian isn't for everyone. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and he always looks pale, thin, and sick. Then you've got someone like Paul McCartney, who has been a vegetarian for decades, and he's turning 71 this month. McCartney can still get out there and rock out for 3 hours at his concerts. So...for some it works out great. For others, not so much. It's all up to you. Regardless, this book is a good starting point.
