A 35mm lens is not ideal for head & shoulder portraits, but you can include a little more in the photo and take an environmental portrait with it. However, the RX1 & RX1R have a "digital zoom" feature that mimics a 75mm lens giving you a better "portrait focal length". However it will not yield as much of the creamy smooth backgound blur that a true short telephoto lens does.

Anita, I do and this camera is excellent for it. Nothing real formal mostly groups etc without lighting.
