Michael says:
Do you run around and look for crimes or are they brought to you? Is it like Red Dead?

C. Burton says:
I believe there are different desks within the police station that you start the missions at Homicide, Arson, Traffic Crimes and Patrol. It says it in the description here on amazon.

From the description it says that the game world is 8 square miles. Smallest open world game ever.

Orcus says:
that's one of the reasons i'm skeptical of this game. i'll prefer to wait 6-9 months till the price drops than have it right away, and who knows what stupid DLC crap they have reserved for it! i'd prefer to wait for the whole package than tidbits.

Mister C says:
Eight square miles seems rather small for the magnitude of this game. This is one of the aspects of LA Noire that leaves me somewhat skeptical. I communicated with someone else on this topic (small open world) and he said that it's just right for this type of game. I think I'll wait a month after the game is release to better understand LA Noire's capabilities and features.

Admiral55 says:
You have to remember that those eight square miles encompasses downtown post-WWII Los's not like 8 miles of post-apocalyptic Nevada desert.

I've never heard Team Bondi/Rockstar say that this is an open world game. I think the open world part of this will be similar to what was available in a game like Mafia 2.

Owen says:
When will you people understand this is not an open world GTA clone? It has a linear plot within an 8 sq mi town. Car chases will be in the open world, but that's pretty much it. Stop being so stupid.

People see the Rockstar logo and assume it's open world. Most don't realize that Rockstar isn't developing it, just publishing it.

Actually, in a preview I just saw on youtube says that there are 80 square miles of city, not 8, with over 140 building interiors and over 20 hours of gameplay time. Sound cool to me!

It's also been stated that the video is incorrect.

Do you people have any idea how big 80 square miles is?

The entirety of San Andreas was only 14 sq. miles. 8 miles is pretty comparable to GTAIV's Liberty City.
