4.0 out of 5 stars A Helpful Book for the Gallery Dealer
I found Nina Pratt's advice to be smart and knowledgeable. Although written for the gallery dealer in mind it would do a lot of good for artists to read Nina Pratt's How to Sell Art. Yes, it does contain a lot of commonsense advice but there are too many dealers out there who often times lack basic common sense about how to sell art. Each chapter is short, concise,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Please save your money and don't buy this book.
Unfortunately, this book was not very good for what I was looking for (or for anything else I imagine). The topics are covered from such a high and vague level that it proves un-actionable. She ends up writing roughly 2-3 pages on each topic and in that amount of time you don't really learn anything. I suspect you would learn more from just hanging out at a cocktail...

Yes, it does contain a lot of commonsense advice but there are too many dealers out there who often times lack basic common sense about how to sell art. Each chapter is short, concise, clearly written and to the point. She summarizes everything at the end of each chapter. Pratt covers issues ranging to dealing with difficult clients, hiring workers; dialing for dollars; being a corporate art consultant, handling rejection and even small issues such as comfortable seating for clients when they visit one's gallery. This was a smartly written book which I was able to read over the course of the weekend.
