1.0 out of 5 stars The title is the best part May 31, 2012

.
This author apparently took some very ho-hum blog entries and decided, "Hey, I can monetize this by publishing them as a book." Sample: he gets all excited about his business card.

The connection between the short entries and the title is usually not apparent.

I feel insulted at paying even 99 cents for this tripe.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blogging and Writing a Book Are Two Different Things January 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been a fairly big fan of some of the things that the author has said on the internet. I haven't been subscribed to him for very long, but I dig his attitude. My problem with the book is that it is more like a collection of blog posts than a book, maybe even more of a peal-away calender than a collection of blog posts - and, more than that, I found that it lacked the sometimes fiery intensity that some of his blog posts have. The majority of advice in this book would not be out of place on posters in a middle school hallway. And the comeback to that may be, "well, that's because it's really good advice," when in reality it's because it comes across as trite and as cheap as something you would read on a bumper sticker that's stuck to the back of a Prius on the Mass Pike. With all that "full time traveling" you would think that the book would contain a bit more depth.

The idea behind the "full time traveler" lifestyle and the attitude with which that sometimes comes out in his in-your-face writing style - sometimes -I think is worth people coming across. However, I would not pay money to read his work (free download, thanks Julien).

It's not just what you tell people, it's how you tell it to them. Advice goes in one ear and out the other. Passion and intensity are what linger for a person. Although a lot of what is said in this book is valid, quality, advice, it lacks a certain intensity and passion.

I guess it's kind of a jerk move to write a negative review of a book that the author gave out for free, but my main motivation for doing so was disappointment - because I have been very impressed with some of his posts that I have read and was expecting a similar sort of pay off from the book. He could probably do better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good set of short notes February 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The author has a distilled, refined set of inputs on the topics being discussed.

The title is a misnomer - I would say the book is about how to be a better person, have a better balance in life. It is not about striving for excellence but about when to be quiet and to respect others' opinion. A simple guide to self improvement.
