A premise with promise: cute, needy, single mom with darling little girl lacks self-confidence and has not outgrown her "blame the parents" issues. Namely, her raunchy mom and generous step-dad are extremely happy, sexy, successful ex-hippies who have always put their "couple-hood" first, leaving their daughter to feel like an afterthought. Not that she wasn't loved and cared for....she was. But she was a boring kid and they constantly have had to be her cheerleaders as she failed at one thing after the other, including marriage to a sweet doofus who would like to move in too. Sarah Chalke, as the single mom, is a great physical comedian with a rubber face. She is laughably tiresome as the "returnee" trying to figure out how to grow up. But it is Elizabeth Perkins, as her "live life to the fullest" mom, who steals this show, has the best lines and impeccable timing. I think the show should be renamed, "How To Put Up With Your Grown, Whiny Kid Without Blowing Your Brains Out".

Hate to admit it, but I'm Polly's "parents'" generation. And while I sympathize with Polly's POV, and think she's adorably messed up (like some of her age that I know), I love that her parents are characters with lives and foibles, and insecurities, of their own. There are no stereotypes in this. It's well written and both "ouch, slap of the forehead" and LOL funny.

This is too new to really tell but wow, the casting so far is amazing, love Elizabeth Perkins so much in this role. She nails it. Also, Brad Garrett is so funny and great. I am new to Sarah Chalke but she is growing on me. Loved Reid Scott as Hot Scott, he would be a great regular on the show. Kind of rounds it out. Also liking Jon Dore and I hope Willie Garson is a regular as well. I really like the chemistry and the writing so far and I think given time this could be a really fun ensemble to watch.

I love this show and I just heard the idiots at ABC are cancelling it! Who makes these decisions? This show is funny and has a great cast. I have my fingers crossed that TBS or some other channel will pick it up next fall.

This is a funny heartwarming show everyone in the family will enjoy. You may think your family is dysfunctional, but wait until you get a look at this family.
