5.0 out of 5 stars An engaging book that teaches good listening skills
My five-and-a-half year old daughter tends to get easily distracted and does not possess the best listening skills, so after reading some glowing reviews of this book here, I decided to purchase it. I have to say that I was pleased with the contents and my daughter actually learned good listening skills from the story of squirmy bunny, Howard B. Wigglebottom...

3.0 out of 5 stars Might be OK for primary kids...
After reading through Howard B. Wigglebottom, I gave it to a primary center teacher that I know. It was too young for my fourth graders and really couldn't even be used for a mini-lesson. The solution to the problem was too contrived and unrealistic and I knew the older kids would see through it immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars An engaging book that teaches good listening skills, November 2, 2010

This review is from: Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen (Hardcover)
Wigglebottom!

The story unfolds in a series of humorous illustrations depicting the distracted Howard, who can't seem to focus on one thing at a time and is always distracted. His antics earn him the displeasure of his teacher, and cause his friends to become annoyed and frustrated. When Howard finds himself all alone, he comes to the realization that he needs to change. When my daughter read the part where Howard is feeling sorry for himself, she became very concerned for Howard, and after we came to the end of the story, she told me, "Mom, Howard learned to listen. So can I!" This book has since become a frequently requested book at bedtime, and my daughter even told me that she thinks reading this book over and over will be good for her listening skills:) It is an engaging book, and the illustrations go a long way to showing young children how important it is to be respectful of others, pay attention, and listen when needed. Highly recommended!

If you have little boys or girls

You'll know at times it's tough

To make them listen when you speak

About manners and stuff

Your kids will love to read about

This naughty little rabbit

Howard was a problem `til

He got the listening habit

Always in trouble when at school

He hadn't any friends

But when he learns to listen - well

You'll love the way it ends

This is a clever, helpful book

To read through with your tot

Especially from three and up

When kids learn such a lot

With guides and lessons at the back

This book meets expectations

A quick and easy learning tool

With super illustrations

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from Books That Heal Kids, March 25, 2010
This review is from: Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen (Hardcover)
It is very difficult to find engaging and fun books that teach school skills. At least that has been my experience. Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen is perfect for preschool - 1st grade. It is engaging and an excellent tool to teach listening skills. You can have a lot of fun with this book by using ideas from the author's website We Do Listen. I wish there were more books on the market like this to help teach listening to young children. If you are looking for more ways to teach school skills, get this on your bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets right to the point, May 2, 2008

This is a very sweet book perfect for young children. It gives them not only negative behaviors, but how one can change behaviors. It gets right to the point, shows specific actions that are inappropriate and unacceptable in school, and then shows that all kids make mistakes sometimes. I like how the character learns from others and turns himself around, trying hard to be 'good'.

We love Howard B. Wigglebottom! Our 3 1/2 year old son has really tried to be a better listener since reading about Howard, the cute bunny who is able to learn from his mistakes. We can talk about better ways to listen from discussing the excellent artwork, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for all young readers with listening troubles, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen (Hardcover)
Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns To Listen by Howard Binkow combines an original and entertaining story with engaging and colorful illustrations from Susan F. Cornelison to provide children 5 through 8 with the tale of Howard Wigglebottom, a young bunny who has poor listening skills. Following Howard through his day at school and the consequences of his continuing failure to listen to his teachers and other authorities, Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns To Listen not only entertains but educates children on what might happen if they decide not to listen, what might happen if they do, and how to best approach good listening. Funny and effective, Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns To Listen is a welcome addition to school and community library picturebook collections, and is especially recommended for all young readers with listening troubles, as well as their parents hoping to find an encouraging and supportive story their children might relate to and learn from.
