Ralph Tribbey, DVD Release Report/Video Store, Sept 29, 2004

"For just $9.98 how can anyone say no to this DVD release?"

Product Description

As a young man, Howard Hughes was unstoppable. His wealth, power and ambition attracted business associates. His achievements as a movie producer propelled him into Hollywood’s inner circle. His dark good looks, Texan charm and vulnerability seduced countless actresses and socialites, marking him as a playboy with a decidedly possessive streak.

Hughes was a passionate and prolific filmmaker who pushed boundaries, enraged censors and did whatever it took to get his films made his way. Whether performing a death-defying stunt in Hells Angels, designing a special bra for Jane Russell in The Outlaw, or facing the wrath of mobster Al Capone and the United States government to ensure the release of Scarface, Hughes was a force to be reckoned with.

As an aviation pioneer, Hughes broke numerous flight records to become a national hero. His contributions to aeronautic design gained him multi-million dollar government con-tracts. In later years, he expanded his empire to Las Vegas with the purchase of several hotels and mining interests, becoming America’s first billionaire. And his greatest dream, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, flourishes today. Explore the public and private life of one of the 20th Century’s most important Americans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great deal for $10 bucks, includes two of Hughes films!!, January 25, 2005

This documentary on Howard Hughes was informative, albeit seemingly done on a lower budget: it was great to delve a little deeper into the history of Hughes and his life, as well as see two of his films! As a two-sided disc with extras, it's a great deal for ten bucks! If you'd like to find out a bit more about Howard Hughes (from watching "The Aviator" in theatres), this is a great place to start...

I think the documentary is very informative and is a great compliment to "The Aviator", if you want to learn more about Mr. Hughes after seeing the movie. What is also great is that there are two full-length films on the flip side: The Outlaw and The Sins Of Harold Diddleback(Mad Wednesday), plus tons of bonus features as well. I believe this to be the best Hughes documentary on the market...and for the price and bonus features, you can't go wrong!

This review is from: Howard Hughes - His Life, Loves and Films (DVD)
Howard Hughes watched Ice Station Zebra for 150 times in a hotel room where he isolated himself for about two years before he died.I recalled that this fact was even written in a column,somewhere... twenty years ago.
(Apart from all other books written about his life)
This documentary in dvd is even more enchanting.
