3.0 out of 5 stars Britanny clock, November 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Howard Miller 611-134 Brittany Grandfather Clock by (Kitchen)
This is not a "real" grandfather clock - it's a quartz clock in a grandfather clock case. It's got weights and a pendulum but they are purely decorative. The pendulum movement is driven by a battery as is the clock mechanism. The chimes sound ok but you can sure tell they are not struck at all but are a recording.

My main concerns are about the quality of the case and it has it's problems. First off, the key barely fits in the keyholes (one for the door, the other is to access the clock mechanism). It takes some force to get it in, and this is defintely not my experience with Howard Miller products I have purchased. You will need to get into the clock to change batteries.

The other concern is that the door on my clock at least seems very poorly aligned with the case. There is a very visible misalignment with the top when the door is closed. It's not that visible enough that I want to return the clock but I must say I am very surprised this left the factory like this as it does not exactly shout "quality" as it should.

This is a very nice looking clock in my home office but it sure is not an "heirloom" clock that might be passed down as a proper grandfather clock.
