This is a fine story if you love the English village life,

This review is from: The Howards of Caxley (Hardcover)
Miss Read invites us to a sleepy village quite far from London -- or wait, is it really sleepy? As the story unfolds at a leisurely pace, we discover that the usual emotions seethe beneath the surface. Septimus is a fine, wise pater familias, although his high principles may hurt a few of his struggling family members. Edward, the nephew, clearly deserves the patrimony because of his humilty, strength, and essential goodness. Sigh.
