5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I purchased this book not knowing really what to expect but the day I received it I could not put it down. If you are a beginner you will really enjoy it very much, the author kept the beginner's in mind unlike most book that claim "this is for beginner's", and the humor he has added make the reading and learning process so less frustrating than many other "how to"...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK I Found the Software!!!!!!
This book needs to be updated with the following information. I took two stars off because I had to become a web private eye just to get the files I needed!!! I went to David D'Champ's site on ShareCG and found the missing software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, February 22, 2008
This review is from: How'd You Do That?: Poser Character Creation For Beginners (Paperback)
I purchased this book not knowing really what to expect but the day I received it I could not put it down. If you are a beginner you will really enjoy it very much, the author kept the beginner's in mind unlike most book that claim "this is for beginner's", and the humor he has added make the reading and learning process so less frustrating than many other "how to" materials that I have come across.

I feel that not only is this a great learning tool but it will be kept around for a long time to reference back when needed. Can't wait for his Volume Two.

This book is written in a clear, easy to understand format and walks you through the process of setting up custom figures in Poser. I've always wanted to be able to do this but most of the books / tutorials I've tried in the past have been way too technical and difficult. That is not the case with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book, March 13, 2008
This review is from: How'd You Do That?: Poser Character Creation For Beginners (Paperback)
This is the easiest to follow guide to create content for Poser I have found yet. I've been a Poser user since version 2 and I have never seen anything this well thought out and written. DAD, I must have ran into you on the metacreations listserv years ago.

I am enjoying this book a lot. When I bought it, I didn't know I'd be learning how to make a Poser

character from scratch. I is a big pleasant surprise.

Get this book.

This is the best book I've seen for CREATING characters for poser. Exactly what the title indicates. R. G. Risch must not have read the title of the book before he bought it. He might even be reviewing the wrong book because the process the author uses is good for Poser 4 through Poser 7.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for true digital media beginners..., June 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How'd You Do That?: Poser Character Creation For Beginners (Paperback)
If you are like me jumping into digital media head first directly from pen and pad to computer this isn't the book for you.

Pros: Aspects(basically chapters 1 & 2) of the book I got through were fairly simple. The parts I understood were well written for a true beginner and like others said his use of wit keeps it interesting.

Cons: By the third chapter I was lost as I was able to make & group my body and parts. However, after I was done labeling groups I was unable to get them into PHI Builder(one of three programs needed to get through the book). He mentions that errors will show in a certain area(which they did for me) but not how to correct them. So, I was stuck researching from there. It also seemed like they were trying to push you to use other software as well rather than guide you through Poser. I found myself having to try to find and download 3(phi builder, uvmapper and artweaver) different programs just to get to chapter 3.

"Poser...for beginners" is a little misleading, but I guess it depends on how you interpret the word beginner. This is for beginners to 3D media not digital media. You should absolutely have some basic knowledge of computer animation. I was planning on using this book to get a jump on fall classes but it is a bit advanced. I hung on to it though, because there will be a time for it. It has good ratings from the people on here who know what they are doing.
