Editorial Reviews

Back in the days when the people who spun records were allowed to have personalities, Wolfman Jack was the king of personality radio. By the time George Lucas had written his character into 1973's "American Graffiti," the Wolfman was already a radio legend, blasting his raspy, jive-talking growl, lupine howls and classic rhythm and blues records across the border from two high-powered stations with transmitters in Mexico - XERB, XERF and XPRS. After "American Graffiti" Wolfman Jack went on to host higly rated programs in LA and NYC, hosted TV's "Midnight Special" for 8 years, and was syndicated to radio stations around the world. He figures in songs by the Grateful Dead ("Ramble On, Rose") and Todd Rundgren ("Wolfman Jack"), and two Canadian groups featured his voice on their records: The Stameder's version of Ray Charles' "Hit the Road, Jack" and The Guess Who's 1974 classic, "Clap for the Wolfman." This compact disc is compiled from actual air-checks of Wolfman's broadcasts on XERB broadcasting in the min '60s from close by Tijuana, Mixico. Believe it or not, the Wolf had toned down a bit by then - no commercials for glow-in-the-dark plastic religious figures or boxes of live baby chickens - but it's the closest thing possible to being there at one of the high points of rock'n'roll radio. And if you care to comply with Wolfman's frequent admonishment to "get yo'self nekked" as you listen, well, so much the better.

This is a great recoring of an on air radio show from the 50,000 watt XERB radio station. I have been a fan of the Wolfman since I was a teenager in the 60's. This cd captures all of the great music from the 50's and 60's rock n roll era, and the Wolfman is in true form with all his on air high jinx. This cd is complete with old time commericals and the "famous wolfman phone calls". Don't miss out if you love good ole rock n roll and and the Wolfman this is the cd for you.

It's a radio wild man, yelling, howlin' jumping up and down and playing the wildest hottest hits. It's Wolfman Jack. Crazy phone calls, nutty jokes and that darn wolf howling. It's radio when radio was exciting, fresh and entertaining. That's the "howlin on the air" CD in a nut shell. Great sound quality, great oldies and lots of great memories. Google Wolfman Jack for great websites that have interesting facts about the Wolf.

Most people know the Wolfman from the movies and tv.But,before he did any of these things he was a soul and R and B dj at XERB in Mex.This cd is a nice sample of his work at XERB Mighty soul 1090.The music is all there so you can get a feel for what one of his air shifts might have been like,I have been a fan of the Wolfmans for some time and have collected other air checks of his this CD is a nice cross section of his work. This CD to goes well with his book.Wolfman you are my hero.

I remember good ole radio when it was fun cruising around in my 68 Dodge Charger and when this was out riding with my brother in 1962. My favorite radio in the philly area was WFIL And WIBG. and wolf man was great. It is like reliving the 60's again when to me life was grand and times were great.

I have played this album over and over again and still have a good time listening to it. I will say that if you are buying this for the music and do not want to hear the Wolfman a lot then don't buy cause he is in it all the time. He sings along with the songs and makes his phone calls and does the commercials. This is all about the Wolfman which I wanted so I am happy with my purchase.
