do not believe the movie,
By darren compton (silverdale, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Howling III (Mass Market Paperback)
the howling 3 the movie is NOTHING whatsoever like the book. if fact, the only thing the movie and the book have in common is the title. the book starts off with a pack of werewolves in the town barn, and the pack leader, Derek, wants to reveal the town's secret to his 15 year old son, since Derek believes he is old enough now. well, a neighboring town comes along on the outside and burns the barn, leaveing a number of the town escaping, and Derek's son missing...and quite confused. i find this book extremely good, especially with brandner's descpritive overtone with the werewolf transformantions and the such. it's been an inspiring book for me personally

Enjoyable,
This review is from: The Howling III (The Howling Trilogy, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
My review rating is not in any way related to having seen the movie-- as I have not. It's for book 3.By the time I was finished reading The Howling book 2, (just after finishing book 1) I was ready for some swift violent action to take place in the third act (book). I knew the story surrounded a boy (having read the description), but I didn't know how slow the pacing would be for quite a bit of the book. The writing is still excellent and the story is a good one, I think it was more my expectations for some "final" "final show down" between all the survivors and the werewolves, that dulled my enthusiasm for book 3, especially reading them one after another the way I did. The end of book 2, seemed to be the show down- in hindsight, but with book 3 being out, I admittedly thought there was more to it. Book 3 follows a teenage boy who has survived the fire that burned the town of Drago to the ground. He has been born a werewolf, but has not yet shifted. He doesn't know for sure what he is- and he wanders the woods, trying to survive and figure things out. Along the way he meets sympathetic people who want to help and protect him, and one who does not. All the while, a pack of werewolves have been following Malcolm- because they are waiting for the right time to reveal to him, what he is- and to welcome him into the werewolf fold. It was a good story- I just had expected different pacing and more..."oomph" from the story. Derak is a good addition to the plot- as the werewolf leader, and he does his fair share of slash and kill, but some pizazz seemed to be missing, that's all. It's still a good story - just don't go into it fresh out of book 1 & 2 expecting a firey showdown. It's slower paced and has a different overall tone than the first 2. |
