Twilight fans hungering for more vampire/werewolf drama can look forward to Marcus Pelegrimas’s Skinners series.” (USA Today)

From the Back Cover

No one said fighting monsters was going to be easy . . .

You can't see them, but they're here: hiding in the pools of shadow outside a Chicago burger joint . . . wreaking havoc in Kansas City . . . feeding in sleazy "blood brothels" that cater to humans who itch to get bitten.

Cole was designing video games when he learned the truth—that foul creatures of the night lust for our blood . . . and our world. Now he's a "Skinner," a member of an ancient secret society of warriors entrusted with keeping the terror at bay. Monsters once chained to the wilderness are suddenly free and descending, razor claws ripping, on the unsuspecting city. No one knows what's coming—but Cole and his seductive partner, Paige, will be the first to dive into the meat grinder.

I was eager to see if Marcus Pelegrimas could do it again. By that I mean if he could deliver another powerful, action-packed, and contagious drama in Book 2 of his Skinners series. Howling Legion, a follow-up to Book 1: Blood Blade, does not disappoint! In fact, I believe this book is even better. The reader doesn't merely get more of the first one but instead gets new characters, new creatures, and new horrors.

Kansas City will never be the same after an overly ambitious Full Blood (werewolf) makes an organized attempt at depleting the human population. The carcass of med student Lisa Wilson, one of the Full Blood's victims-turned-Half Breed, becomes the focus of an interested cop's investigation, and Skinners Paige and Cole assist him. While in KC, the Skinners uncover the magnitude of the Full Blood's actions. The confrontations, strategies, and attacks that follow are intense (to say the least) and life-changing for the humans and beasts alike.

It's important to note that Pelegrimas isn't only about the graphic battle scenes between people and monsters. While those battles are definitely in Howling Legion, in full force, he also writes a storyline with great detail and characters with a growing depth. The world he has created is complex, and I find it fascinating to read what he comes up with next.

This series is well worth your time. Enjoy, and spread the word!

Where Blood Blade left you wanting more Howling Legion delivers. Pelegrimas is improving and has no ceiling in sight. His charaters are getting more developed and the story line keeps unfolding and progressing...always forward. Unlike some authors out there who bog you down with so many unnecessary details, and rehashed dialogue from 10,20, or 30 pages ago over and over; Pelegrimas moves from scene to scene, without having to back track. These books are easy to read and follow due to impressive description and detail. He's created an everyman hero that was plucked from his safe reality, and plunged into a firy dark nightmare that is slowly but surely tempering him. Together with his teacher, partner, and sexual tease Paige, Cole can only hope to hold on to his previous life while confronting the demons of his new one; Or at least until those demons put an end to both.

Building on the Werewolf/Shape shifter(Full Blood, Half Breed, Mongrel)side of the vampire (Nymar) and werewolf based world, Pelegrimas again captures your imagination and keeps you turning pages until the end, where again you just want MORE.

Months after the end of Blood Blade Cole continues to be trained in his new role as a Skinner, which means he's usually getting his ass handed to him by Paige. Stephanie and Ace try pushing the boundaries to see how far they can get with the new partners, while in Kansas City a full blood seems to be on the rampage, but also with some purpose in mind. They also run into another full blood, one Cole's familiar with. The two Skinners head to Kansas City with a Blood Blade, a Nymar named Daniels and his lab kit in tow. Daniels is working on something that Paige came up with and that might give Skinners an edge when fighting half and especially full bloods.

As with the first Skinners book I really liked Howling Legion. There's a lot of action, a bit of humor and some new characters. Though I really like Paige and how tough she is, sometimes she annoys me with how it seems that all she sees of life is being a Skinner and nothing else (that and her impatience get her into a little trouble in this book). I still love Cole's character. I like his snarky little comments and the fact that, though he handles everything that's thrown at him really well, he still sometimes can't believe how much his life has changed. Real life, the real life most people know, in the form of his job as a video game designer is also demanding his attention, attention he has to decide if he can give it. There are some new characters and I liked Daniels, a kind of dorky Nymar who's a chemistry wiz and a fanboy like Cole and he doesn't hate the Skinners and actually helps them. The guys and, this time a girl who seems interested in talking to Cole, at MEG are also back.

I'd definitely recommend the Skinners series and look forward to reading Teeth of Beasts.

I am an avid reader and picky. I like to have something that is like no other. I get very tired of main stream authors pumping out book after book of lame fiction. Marcus Pelegrimas is an author that you never know what the next book will hold, but you can count on it being excellent and well worth your time. If you like a series that has realism mixed with other world do not miss this Skinners series. You will not be disappointed. Kim Harrison and Simon Green fans will be hooked.

I do recommend you read the first in the series, Blood Blade (Skinners Book 1) so you can follow the story line.

There are two main characters. Paige is a long time Skinner= (someone with the ability to see and deal with all the other world creatures). Cole is a man that specializes in creating video games, an expert in his field.
Cole did not have much excitement in his life until he went on vacation and discovered that their where
creatures on this planet that lived beside us, some in harmony, some meaning to harm us and some to
rule the humans. Paige and Cole are people who get respect and are feared by the vamps, were's and humans (especially the police).
People are being murdered in a way that Paige and Cole know the were's (werewolves)are responsible for. But why?
They must travel to find the culprits. They must be prepared with their magic, potions made with blood of the beasts, we
cannot see as humans. Cole is still in training as he is Paige's apprentice. He is coming along well. This will be a fight that
is bloody, difficult, and at times almost impossible.
It is hard to give all the details without spoilers. But this book is full of action and other world beings, I guarantee you will not want to set it down. Stray away from what you know.
