Is there a cure for cancer? Thousands flocked to Harry Hoxsey's clinics across the United States hoping that his herbal and dietary remedy would stave off their life-threatening illnesses. The story of this colorful man and his battle with medical authorities is told in Hoxsey: How Healing Becomes a Crime. Insightful and sympathetic, the film uses contemporary news footage and interviews with those involved, including patients and clinicians at the Tijuana clinic that continues his work. Though there's only anecdotal evidence that his program works, enough people swear by it to provoke at least curiosity in the viewer; it's hard to see how the medical establishment could keep their eyes closed for so long. Whether he was a snake-oil hustler or a mistreated humanitarian, Hoxsey's life makes compelling viewing. --Rob Lightner

DVD extras include: Bonus Film: " A Hope and a Prayer" and an interview with the director. In 1924, Harry Hoxsey claimed a cure for cancer, herbal formulas inherited from his great-grandfather. Thousands of patients swore the treatment cured them; but the medical authorities branded Hoxsey the worst quack of the century. So began a medical war continuing to this day. By the 1950's Hoxsey's Texas clinic was the world's largest, with branches in 17 states. Two Federal courts upheld his treatment's "therapeutic value." Even his archenemy, the American Medical Association, admitted it does cure some cases. Yet organized medicine banned the therapy, exiling it to Mexico where it claims an 80% success rate today. Why won't medical authorities investigate the treatment? Hoxsey charged a "conspiracy" to suppress alternative therapies. Was Hoxsey a hoax? Or was he "The Quack Who Cured Cancer"? Hoxsey's alarming scenario may make you angry, but most of all HOXSEY offers hope.

By viewing Hoxsey I learned a very important lesson and that is that there are those who really care about you but it is not in the present so called "money motivated health care system" we have in place today. There are very simple remedies out there in which we are not being told about because there is no money to be made in herbal medicine as there is in prescription drugs. The Harry Hoxseys of today are still out there but we are taught from an early age that we should put all our trust in modern medicine and that this is the only way. By viewing this documentary of a wonderful human being who cared and loved his fellow man you will also see that there are other ways we can help ourselves besides running off to a medical doctor every time we come down with an illness. I very highly recommend that if you have any health problems at all that you view this video. May this open your eyes up to the simple things in life.

a nice intro to hoxsey, his clinic(s), and his treatment; valuable to all, from cancer patients(as an intro tool when deciding on treatment) to health care professionals(& especially those still in training/school who haven't been polarized to an allopathic-only mindset). This video came before the (thick) bk, When Healing Becomes a Crime (which is a virtual treasure trove of cancer/treatment info, not just historical or hoxsey specific; highly recommend that you read the bk), and the video is a synopsis of the heart of the bk, minus later history/studies/otherTreatments. I learned of the video via the bk, which is actually one of my textbooks for the class "Cancer: Prevention and Politics," within my natural health degree program.
