5.0 out of 5 stars as advertised, December 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Looking through it with the naked eye reveals no distortions or imperfections. This is a genuine multi-coated UV filter (test this by looking at a reflection of a light source on its surface: a perfect reflection indicates no coating, a dim reflection indicates a single coating, and a green reflection indicates multiple coatings). Multiple coatings yield greater light transmission through the glass, and less glare, but (and this affects all multi-coated filters from all companies) also pick up dust, fingerprints, and condensation very easily (just holding it on the metal ring with your fingers causes condensation from your perspiration).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but very fragile.., August 21, 2007
As per the title, this filter is great. The clarity is nice and it adds an extra layer of protection for your lens. My only complaint is that the coating is very very fragile and can get nicked off quite easily.

I've been using these filters on all of my lenses and like them a lot for the price. I believe they perform just as well as more expensive filters from Hoya and other manufacturers. Unless you need a slim filter, there doesn't appear to be any reason to spend more.

Be sure you get the Super HMC model as it's way better (and multi-coated) than the HMC model.

I have UV filters on all my lenses for protection, but once I started buying more expensive lenses I thought it would be silly to put a cheapo filter on them. This is a great multi-coated filter that doesn't noticeably degrade my image quality and the price is very reasonable considering how much the lenses cost. I'm very happy with this product and will continue purchasing the Hoya Multi-coated UV filters for future lenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Quality Filter, March 1, 2011

This review is from: Hoya 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Super HMC Multi Coated Glass Filter (Accessory)
These Hoya UV Super HMC filters really live up to their reputation: they are superbly crafted using advanced coating technologies to achieve a unique ("multi coated") format that interferes very little with light transmission, and, to boot, helps protect your lens while doing so. Although it can be argued whether or not UV filter coatings actually improve image quality of digitally-taken photographs (It is pretty clear that the benefit is there for FILM cameras, where UV rays can create unwanted color casts and lack of clarity), if you hold the filter up to the light and look through it at various angles, it seems pretty clear that the filter is doing an excellent job of helping control unwanted light biases.

Mine was manufactured in Japan, and has the feel and look of a filter that costs twice as much. It's truly a bargain in the sense of what you get for the cost, and arguably, can improve your images in outside settings. Of course, even if does not, it still fulfills the lens protection function without degrading light transmission by any appreciable degree, even when you are shooting at the widest zoom settings. An easy five star recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great filter at a reasonable price!, August 13, 2010

I've been looking around for a UV filter for awhile. One thing I read is there's not reason to go cheap on these things. Why put a piece of glass in front of your lens that is poor quality? You can't take a good picture anymore! Anyway - the price is right for this UV filter. I keep in on whenever (and use a lens cap, too...) and haven't had any problems with lens flare.

I purchased this lens and love it. What I like about this company is the Customer Service. Delivery was delayed but they made it right!! They went above and beyond, something that does not happen much anymore. It matters to them how the customer feels. THANKS!!

I will make them my first stop for shopping in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars good price and quality, November 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hoya filters, i settled for this one on my 72mm ring Canon 50mm f/1.2L just because i had B+W 77mm's UV and CPL, no need to buy a B+W 72mm just for the 50 prime, so i bought this as a front lens element protector and bought a filter step-up ring from B+W to use the 77mm's in special shoots.

build quality is good, UV filter performance is hard to compare, the price is very good compared to B+W. And it's also Multi-Coated.

If you only need a couple of filters, you might want to buy the best your money can afford, for me, the list of filters are more than what i really need, so i just bought this for lens protection.
