Hoyle Card Games 2002,
By David Morin (PORT ST LUCIE, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
"Hoyle Card Games 2002" is not really for all ages if you are concerned with modeling good sportsmanship; some of the computer talking characters are rude. 18 games are included plus over forty variations of "Solitaire".(Gin Rummy,Poker-5 card draw, Cribbage, Canasta, Euchre, Pitch-cutthroat Set Back, Pinochle, Contract Bridge, Hearts, Spades, Go Fish, War, Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Memory Match, Skat, Tarot-a French card game NOT fortune telling, and a unique feature called "Face Maker" where you can create a character to represent yourself.)This product comes with a rule book which offers a bit of history along with the rules. The games are user friendly; you may play against the computer, with a friend, or connect to the internet to play with other people. Over all, I would rate this product "4" (good). What I didn't like was that even though there is an option to set an easy or challenging game, there isn't an option to set partner response time. For example: player response time in the game of "Bridge" is painfully slow.

The best software for card games except....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
...if you want to play Canasta. I read the review for the 2001 version of this software where the reveiwer complained about her computer generated partner throwing cards they needed back onto the pile. I figured that bug would have been worked out for this latest edition (unless the reviewer actually meant to critique the 2002 version instead of 2001) but it hasn't. I bought this newer version to play Canasta so needless to say it's disappointing to see such blatant errors being made by the computer's characters. Other games that have been added are Pitch, Skat, and Tarot. The options have expanded, more choices in selecting the background. Have your reading glasses ready with their new compact size manual. The content is very good, they even provide history of the games. Online rules of play is very good too so the manual isn't necessary. Overall, Sierra has done a fine job with their card game software, the graphics are first rate.

Hoyle Card Games -- Not compatable for Macs!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
When I loaded on the Hoyle Games, my entire computer system went into a constant flashing mode. It rearranged my hard disk, and I crashed five times trying to figure out what was wrong. I went into "Help" and all it covered was directions for playing specific games. Even my husband who has a PC, had major problems and took it off his computer immediately. It has a beautiful package, and looks great online, but putting this thing on your computer is a real risk. I will never attempt to load this, or other games from Sierra, again.

Mislabelled Specs for Hoyle Card Games 5 (2002),
By
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
I purchased this game with a labelled carton saying it was for "Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP". After installation, I could not activate any sound effects, using a Windows 2000 operating system. Now the phone support states that it is not designed for 2000, and this operating software is no longer sisted on your website for the program. It is going back to Costco, and I shall find another source of card game software. Very disappointed.

Hoyle Products Vs MS Windows,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
I have in fact installed this software on all platforms of Windows including 2000 and XP. I have had no problems in doing so. I would attribute most of the problems listed by other reviewers are results from user error. This is well written software... not sure it's completely worth what they are asking... but it DOES work on any OS from 95-XP, both Pro and Home versions.

Not for the iMac.,
By
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
Even though the instructions specify that the software can be used on the iMac, it wouldn't work after being installed. Besides that, it had to be the cause of my access to the internet failing because once I removed it from my hard drive, I could once again access the internet. I don't know why it wouldn't work, but other games software works and creates no problems. I was extremely disappointed.

Not for mac os x,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
This program has to run in classic mode which is annoying and the picture quality is awful. I also don't like the characters and backgrounds - I prefer the boring drabness of my old ms windows game but haven't found anything like it for macs yet.

Create a near life-like picture of yourself to play cards,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
The card games are fun. But I really had a good time creating my face to be one of the players (there is a large menu of face, nose, eye, mouth shapes as well as hair color/styles and clothes to choose from; surprisingly lifelike pictures resulted). It took some time, but I found it enjoyable. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is that I couldn't get the sound to come on and my computer should be more than adequate to the task.

Poor Excuse for Bridge,
By 52cards (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hoyle Card Games 2002 (CD-ROM)
This software offers an "expert" option to play Bridge. After playing it many times, I have come to the conclusion that the person who coded this game has no idea how to play it. The computer players almost never reach game and they often throw trump when they shouldn't. They will discard cards that are sure tricks for them. Also, the claim option doesn't work very well. You can't claim yourself, the computer will do it for you but not all the time. Very aggravating. I can only speak for Bridge and not the other games on this cd.
