Hoyle Card Games lets you create your own customized character with its Facemaker feature, choose your opponents, and play up to 14 classic games. The creative graphics and animations add an extra element to your favorite card games.

Begin your play by making your own persona with the Facemaker feature. This software provides games for all skill and age levels. For the younger set, there's Go Fish, which provides great player interaction and fun graphics. (Fish actually jump in and out of your hand.) In addition, there's old maid, which is set against a landscape of Mars. A cuddly bear offers tips on this card game. Hoyle Card Games also offers games such as bridge and hearts for older players, and, of course, 30 different variations of solitaire.

The installation is very easy, allowing you to jump right in to interactive card play. The instructions are clear, to the point, and accessible at the start of every game. The variety of game possibilities is refreshing.

You can play Hoyle Card Games alone, with friends, or over the Internet. Your onscreen opponents can be challenging and provide entertaining, sometimes satirical, responses to every play. The good is that there are lots of games. The bad is that your opponents and partners, (worse) seem to be morons. The bidding in the bridge section is terrible. I was stuck with this game for many weeks and so got to know it. It is hard to figure out why your partner made a particular bid afterwards. There is also a flaw (for my IMAC at least) in the pinochle game that freezes up the game after the second time the game is played. I sent an email to the company complaining, no response ever. Frustrating programs.
