It does not compare in contrast to other monitors in the $100-120 price range but there is a suggested fix below that brings it close. This is more of a color issue with seeing deep blacks in photos. That doesn't mean it has poor image quality, it doesn't - and will suit most people just fine. But if you're a graphics or photography nut you will notice a difference between this and similar monitors, even older monitors. For this being an LCD-led monitor its really nothing fancy. It comes with a power cord and VGA cable (no DVI cable).
I am currently comparing this to an Acer of the exact same size that is at least three years old with heavy use and I think the Acer has slightly better image quality. Especially with regard to contrast. Don't believe the 3,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio because that is complete bunk. Pull up a photo and its going to look just ever so slightly washed out with less contrast than other big name monitors, and some people may not even notice this (see my workaround below). That's odd because the Acer i compared this with isn't an LED monitor and considering it was one of the cheapest monitors I could find a few years ago I was expecting the HP to blow it out of the water but that is not the case. While HP used to be a super big player in the computer realm its possible they are cutting corners right now.
The main issue is I don't see the rich color density with nice color contrast that I see on other monitors. For example you pull up an image or your computer's desktop, you aren't going to see the stark contrast and especially deep blacks right away that you see in other units.Read more ›
This monitor is not a true LED, but a LCD with a slight LED backlight so the picture quality is not as good a a true LED like the HP 2011x. I would not recommend this monitor as a main monitor unless you are on a very tight budget, or you don'[t care about picture quality, but for a 2nd monitor it works great. It also has as DVI and its VESA wall mountable which you will not find in this price range for a monitor. If you are looking for a main monitor I would recommend the dell models I mentioned.
